A happy moment for your Monday Morning....turn on the sound

This commercial was shot at the Liverpool Street Subway Station in London 4 weeks ago (15 Jan '09). Only the dancers knew what was happening; the general public didn't have a clue what was about to unfold...

This youtube site has had over 2 million hits.

It was sent to me saying:
Shades of "Ferris Buehler" but to me,right now, it's shades of "Slumdog..."

5. It's a COMMERCIAL. People get paid to make 'spontaneous' feel good stuff like this.
Edited on Mon Mar-30-09 10:16 AM by Avalux
And it was staged - explain how everyone knew it was the end and at the same time, went on their way.

I admit it's very cool but keep it in context of what it is. A clever advertisement which will go viral because people like you are posting it and passing it on - for free.

10. Oh lighten up.
It's fun to watch.

Relax & enjoy.

If it goes viral it deserves to.

14. Hmm. People getting paid...
400 of them (as dancers). Not bad in an economy where jobs are hard to find.

Of course it was staged. Probably required a few more paid people to stage it.

The people who happened to be in the station enjoyed it - even if it was staged.

The people who are passing it on on the internet are enjoying it - even if it was staged, and even if it is a commercial.

Just because a corporation does it, or because it was staged rather than spontaneous, doesn't mean it is a bad thing. If you don't enjoy it, don't watch. I don't enjoy most commercials, so even though they are running in the background I tune them out. Drives my family up the wall because they keep commenting on something unbelievable on the commercial and my response is, "Huh? It's a commercial. I wasn't watching." This one I would watch (whether it is on my TV or on YouTube because it is well done, not obviously selling anything, and just plain fun.

7. Why is this happy?
I'm not trying to be a downer. But it's a commercial -- a highly scripted commercial with very little public involvement.

I tear up watching all those people from other cultures, just goofing off and having fun. We are all a huge family.

Watching people break out in spontaneous dance is contagious and joyful!!!! It doesn't matter to me if it is an advertisement or not its still a very joyful expression that transcends cultural and language, technical divides.Everyone can the understand and can connect with the celebration of being alive in dancing.

So I say again thank you for posting this and the other Matt videos!
I also loved the "Don't worry be HAPPY video!!!!
