Cop who detained NFL player at hospital quits
DALLAS - The police officer who pulled out his gun and threatened an NFL player with jail instead of allowing him inside a hospital where his mother-in-law was dying resigned Wednesday.

1. It's for the best
His screw up was inexcusable and he has no business wearing a badge and carrying a gun.

8. Don't worry, there's plenty more where he came from

Carrying exactly the same attitude.

By no means do I think all cops are bad but there is certainly a very significant minority who are there mostly to throw their weight around with badge and gun for backup.

Edited to add: I know this because I know a few cops personally and they are more than happy to tell you their "bad seed" compatriots once you get to know them.

4. I wonder if it had been an anonymous black man if this would have gotten attention?

5. i think you already know the answer to that one.
for that matter, just any anonymous person, regardless of race, we would not hear about it.

I had a neighbor who was struck by a police car (the officer was drunk on duty) while they were stopped at a stop light. They were charged with failure to operate their vehicle safely, and fined.
This was back before police dashboard cameras, and it was their word against the cop's, so they lost.

12. Oh, please. you know better than that.
I wonder if this cop had a reputation for doing this to black folks and up until he'd done this to Moats, had gotten away with it?

6. Every time I saw that man's face, the first thing that came to my mind....
was "He looks incredibly stupid" (I mean like Bush stupid).

10. I fail to understand his insistence of a face-to-face apology
other than the fact he's probably trying to escape a civil suit.
