The laws of unintended (or intended) consequences
I think it is great that the car companies are giving a break to those who lose their jobs.
However, the ones I have seen come with the caveat "through no fault of your own".
Hmmm...I heard something today that made my blood boil.
A local employer needed to lay off some employees but he didn't want to have to pay unemployment or other compensation.
So, he did a "random" drug test of all of his labor. Popped 12 employees. Problem solved. No unemployment need to be paid, no compensation necessary. And I would imagine--even though these employees were not found to be "high, stoned or otherwise" on the job, they would not qualify under that caveat.
Another victory for the war on drugs!Yah!Are we winning yet??:puke:

1. While I understand your point
they agreed to work for a company that banned the use of drugs that are illegal. Then they chose to use illegal drugs. They got caught.

2. It was a cheap shot, but the employer is within his rights
if it's part of the employment agreement.

In this economy, I can't fathom why people would risk their jobs like that.
