I am writing to complain about the survey question that specified a choice between private plans only, or private and public plans.
Why are you ignoring the single payer option (HR 676/1200 and S 703) that has been endorsed by thousands of union chapters, and is favored by a majority of health care providers, 92% of Democrats and 51% of Republicans?
I'd expect union organizers who are experienced at negotiations to know that it is a very bad idea to lead with a compromise. A public plan coexisting with private insurers, who will continue to divert as much money from health care as they can, ought to be a fallback compromise--not one of only two options. If we start out with a weak demand, we have absolutely guaranteed that any public option will be deliberately underfunded and set up to fail.
Why not follow the peoples' lead, starting now?
