Obama Meets the Queen Mother!
Edited on Wed Apr-01-09 08:41 PM by BeFree
On edit: changed title and some words.

Here we are talking about the "Power Behind the Throne" and the "Borg", and what do we see Obama doing? Kissing the Queens ass.

Didn't America throw off royalty? Didn't we beat the King of England and claimed that Kings and Queens are no better than any one else? So what is Obama doing over there kissing up to royalty?

Obama had to go to Europe and meet the Kings and Queens. Don't get me wrong. He doesn't want to, he HAS to. They told him to get his ass over there ASAP.

Anyway, back here at home, on the dem Underground, we are once again talking about the "Powers That Be".

Good to see some reality and deep politics being discussed on these pages.

.
.
.

We have the internets and teleconferencing now

Transporting tons of vehicles and weaponry for a visit . .

is this really necessary?

Not to the homeless and needy it ain't. .

6. They should come over here
And kiss our ass! But no, we send our President to meet the Queen. What the hell?

See, this is what Carter did, he told them to kiss his ass and he stayed home to fix America first. So the PTB made sure he was finished.

20. The location of the G8, now G20 meeting changes
every meeting. Sometimes it's here, sometimes it's in Europe. It was in Seattle a few years ago, remember?

But not that such practicalities matter to you. Please continue with your unfocused anger and scenery chewing.

11. She is the Head of State for the UK
Edited on Wed Apr-01-09 08:55 PM by supernova
The visit was a necessary part of the job of being President.

The Prime Minister of the UK is not the Head of State, the Queen is.

It would be very bad international manners to visit Great Britain and not visit the head of state, the Queen. She is the Head of State until the people of the UK say otherwise. Perhaps they will in the not too distant future get rid of the monarch like we did, but for now, that's the law.

And you don't have to tell me that a monarchy is not a great idea, but thanks for playing.

edit: Paying an official visit is not the same thing as supporting monarchy or even approving of it, but you do get that nuance, don't you?

Not more of the same old shit that got us into this mess.

So what if Obama dissed the Queen? Would I lose my job? Any more of my freedoms? Would there be more homeless? Worse banks?

What would happen if we just told the Queen, and all that royalty crap: So sorry, you are history!! You are to be, forevermore, ignored.

Now that would be some real change, eh?

The way you talk, you'd think she was still our head of state.

Please don't tell me you're trying to protect them.

And while our running the royalty off our shores did happen so many years ago, they still make slaves of our sisters in other places. In fact, they are still our enemy. Please, cut them no slack. Be done with them. Hell, lets string 'em up. That'll show 'em who's the boss!!

43. Just going off your post which referred to the last time an English monarch was our head of state...
In the War of 1812, we had a President (James Madison) and our own gov't and no British monarch was our head of state.

The last time we had a British monarch as head of state was in 1776. Hence 232+ years ago not 193.

Not everyone was in America at that time, and have had to fight those pieces of shit and their
subjects after your magical date of 1812. Good for America that they felt stopping freedom was too costly here. But there are other places they still are willing to use force to prevent freedom.

Royalty is NOT the "enemy" since:

1) We are NOT ruled by the British Royal family and haven't been since 1776.

2) The British Royal Family is a figurehead. They don't rule in any real way either. It's NOT up to us to tell the United Kingdom how it should conduct its affairs - do you want us to invade England and depose them? The English have a right to choose their own form of government and if they no longer want a monarchy, that's up to THEM.

IIRC, the royals are all inbreds. From Russia, to Austria, Germany, France and England, the royals inbred with other royals, all the time raping and pillaging the serfs.

Their history is something that made America the New World for all the teeming hungry masses that yearned to be free. Free from what, you ask? Free from the royals and their raping and pillaging.

The British are entitled to whatever form of government pleases them - it's NOT your business as an American to try and force them to live under YOUR vision of government any more than it was THEIR business to tell us that 233 years ago.

If you object so much, immigrate to the U.K. and start objecting..at least THEN you'll have some right to tell them what they should do.

10. "claimed that Kings and Queens are no better than any one else"
Not necessarily. The Founding Fathers would have been happy to remain British subjects and indeed they wanted to. They only finally declared independence because their grievances were not being heard and power was being abused. Had the king given them even some of what they were asking for, there probably would have been no revolution. They were hesitant enough to begin with.

The fact of "all men are created equal" was the revolution that finally, way too many years later, allowed women the vote and even later blacks, is what we're talking about. The Declaration took ten years to come about and even AFTER Concord and Lexington John Adams spent a year begging the Continental Congress to act for Independence and they wouldn't. They sent letters to his majesty seeking reconciliation and it was only in May of 1776 when they started to take the idea of Independence seriously.

Her real name was Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.

She died March 30th, 2002. She was the mother of Queen Elizabeth II, who is the present reigning Queen.

And it wouldn't do you any harm to acknowledge the monarch of one of America's greatest allies.

The American Revolution was in the 1770s. Things have changed.

You are the classic ugly American. People like you make me embarassed to travel abroad - I'm all the time having to apologize for the yahoos.

The English spent two years fighting Hitler when the U.S. simply wasn't ready and suffered much more than we did to prevail over the Nazis. Who knows what might have happened had they not held out. They have been our strongest allies in the Cold War and since and are generally very nice and decent people.

I had the privilege of spending two weeks in Cambridge last November during the Presidential election and they were by and large ecstatic that Obama was elected.

59. Of course she didn't
First of all, the protocol for meeting the Queen is that men bow and women curtsey. However, since The President and First Lady are considered leaders, it is protocol for them NOT to bow and curtsey. When Prince Phillip (the asshole) met Jackie Kennedy he told her that she shouldn't curtsey as the wife of a leader of the country. And she didn't. After the JFK funeral, Prince Phillip went to visit her and she curtsied, then said to the Prince, I am no longer the wife of a leader.

The Queen is a figurehead only now, not the leader of England. However, observing protocol when visiting another country as a representative of the US is the right thing to do.

All men are created equal. No one should bow to anyone. Ever.

The royals, you might have missed it, have screwed over so many people that the royals will burn in hell, if there is a hell.

I am proud to help them along their way. That's my protocol. That is a free man's protocol.

OF Course there is ceremony and protocol in international relations. It's NOT about the individual it's about showing respect to the other country. And FYI Obama did NOT bow to Queen Elizabeth NOR did she bow to him. They treated each other as EQUALS because they are both heads of state. Your ignorance is truly astounding. It's a wonder you can feed yourself without choking and bathe without drowning.

70. The reality is that there are more 'royals' than these ones suffering this round of myopia...
Reality is that Mohammad was a slaver. As was Abraham said to be if the term was gentily put forward as: servant, Hagar being a prime spirit in that ongoing E-volution. As did ways Europeans slaughtered one another, so was the case in the Tutsi-Hutu conflict while some oppressions visited there being somehow even more violent to the last; houses within Chinese dynasties & Illuminati sweeping across landscapes painting their temples with swine's blood, and Siddhartha was just another 'well-off' kid

"deep politics"? - imo not in this thread, I'm left with being unconvinced this thread has been designed to accommodate such options; I suppose the upside is that this thread is new & childlike and as such capable of maturation but no you are right...

89. PWI? No...
My pet observation about DU is, well, I suppose our ability to deliver undeniable myopia to subjects we *demand* others be pliable enough to ignore as being myopic views on a host of issues. Here...the world is not flat, I don't need to be drunk to understand that. Neither is the world merely 3-D, or even an orb...it's an elliptical spheroid. And as the OP expressed chagrin not seeing any "deep politics" being discussed well,

My thought is that to enhance the deepness-of-it one serves a function of understanding the various facets that bear upon it and there it is done: make it deep, though ask first perhaps - how deep?

Asking as to PWI posting status here at DU should be a standing thread every so, like Mandatory Malloy, or bob's impeachment check-in threads but no not me I have to be in a dentist's chair @ 8am believe me PWI posting here at DU about a subject that lends allegory the depth of a dinner plate is the least of my problems :(

101. Your's is the essence of my point in fact. DU is able to call for revolution against...
the queen of England...while never being able to even move Rush Limbaugh up & off his EIB radio chair...while, again *demanding*, that others use punctuation to their satisfaction; *The Queen's punctuation mind you*, Ha! Dragging then all matters so far afield as to be even more worthless than they were to begin with welcome to DU, no, I'm not sorry...

You only think you need/want punctuation. What you need is a tiny little silk hanky from a gift shop off Piccadilly so's to wipe the porridge from the corners of your drivel.

The queen mother IS a sticky icky ball that represents the worst of history's transgressions against the common man, but Obama was not posed as a lying, backstabber. Obama is just a pawn of the highest order on the world stage of the monarchs and the wanna be monarchs, who just happens to be our president.

As referenced in my OP the powers that be have demanded that our man come face the PTB... he didn't want to go, he had to go.

Funny the damned knee-jerk reactions my OP inspired. No, not funny, terribly sad that so many can't comprehend anything complicated with the awful truth.

111. Yes, my goal is to be less knee-jerk that's true, and I did read your OP...
and, well, I think I understood could be wrong; but in doing so while having read also, "(Obama) Kissing the Queens ass" I became keyed on a larger picture and I have an i.e. for that ='ing Obama, he's there gripping & grinning we all see the pics mit der evil, tiny little shrunken queen, Michelle didn't *curtsy* which clearly falls into the 'what-the-fuck-ever' bin, but this larger pic includes for me a scourge upon global corporatism as imaged within 'the royals' whomever's royals they may be, now...

Here in America we have no such concerns in that here in America, to a considered extent; money = monarchy (which is part of why Limbaugh considers his thoughts so noble & regal), and that's the end of it or is it?

American Corporate Sports Franchises being among the elite, 'royal' American personages...then to what extent has Obama fed their designs by taking felt pen to paper picking Final-4 candidates? To the extent of consternating, however subliminal, the educational budgets of schools that can always get a team recruiter on campus, but little other funding for engineering shall we say? To Leave others with the impression there are no careers in America unless & until you've been signed by a sports franchise? Or furthering the schemes of Wall Street with his insider picks from there as has been a matter of concern here at DU as well and of late.

I say the lessons are not lost but enhanced by taking a step back and viewing not just the dot in the center that others have placed there for us; but into all four corners of the paper.

Peace on'ya, I appreciate your passion :kick:

71. I guess you didn't get the memo
that Britain and the US are allies now, not combatants. We support the nations that support us, and we treat them with the respect we want them to show us.

It appears that you would be unlikely to ever hold a position as a diplomat--your answers are tacky and without taste. The United Kingdom chooses to remain a constitution monarchy with the Queen being the head of the country, but with a parliament and a prime minister.

The United States's constitution was inspired by Britain's Magna Carta, signed by King John in 1215. And it's been a very, very long time since we had any differences with the UK that would justify being at opposing poles.

There is significant protocol between different countries around the world, and no one looks at thing quite the same way. In order for other countries to respect us, we must respect these countries in return. Through your statements, it appears you have a severe lack of understanding of how government and politicking work in the rest of the world. In some countries, such disrespect would--and could--result in your head being separated from the rest of your body. Even if we don't like how a country is governed, it is not something we can change--unless your name is George Bush or Dick Cheney, and you intend to act out any one of the fantasies that kept PNAC in power for the past 8 years.

BE the CHANGE you say you want to see. Nothing WILL change if you can't be more solicitous toward members of other governments.

She is a member of the damned royal family. Her family is who we had a revolution FROM. Fine, we're friends now, but you think the royals forget? At first chance we'd be slaves of their's again.
