Want to buy a hybrid? Deals are great, says CNN

HLN's Clark Howard says if you've been thinking about buying a hybrid vehicle, now is the time.

2. I see Hummers EVERYWHERE now!
Gotta love that infamous 30 second attention span Americans have. When the inevitable spike in gas prices happens again they will all whine and bitch about the costs of owning these monstrocities and not being able to unload them.

3. Time to raise the gas tax?
Well, maybe not now. But a phased-in boost after the economy starts to grow again might be in order.

12. Taxes are for revenue, not behavior modification
Besides, would the good it did outweigh the bad?

It would hurt everyone who directly or indirectly uses gas, ie, everyone.

The only good it would do is possibly induce people to buy more economical cars but even that's dubious since the price difference between a Hybrid and other vehicles is more than what most people spend on gas (Depending on how much they drive of course)

4. I'm still in love with my 2 year old Prius.
But I'll be leaving it for 5-6 months in May to drive my 4-cyl Tacoma to Oregon to my fire lookout job. Dr. DemoTex will drive my Prius during my absence, allowing her Volvo wagon to rest. Of course, she will be flying into Bend, Oregon, to visit me a couple of times a month in the Deschutes NF (she has lots of west coast and Asia work this year).

5. Bend, Oregon?
Do yourself a favor, if you like beer, and visit Deschutes Brewing there!

8. Exactly what my dentist told me yesterday!
And he, a well-traveled bon vivant stuck in red-neck, fundy South Carolina, told me that Bend was his favorite place in the world. My fire lookout assignment is 45 miles from Bend. I'll be fishing the Deschutes, paddling in Waldo Lake, and hiking Fort Rock on my days off. I was 61 years old yesterday, and I feel like a kid with his first job .. US Forest Service Fire Lookout! I'm almost as excited as the day I got hired by Piedmont Airlines as an airline pilot.

Hidden Lake Lookout in the Upper Skagit, Washington. This is the lookout that Pulitzer-winning poet Gary Snyder (with two fire lookout seasons under his belt at Crater and Sourdough) was to man in 1954, until his maritime union affiliations and McCarthyism shot him down. No, this is not my lookout for this season .. but I wish it were!

10. Thanks for the pic!
Makes me homesick for the Northwest!

By the way, the Cinder Cone Red Ale totally rocks.

or they just decided to keep their present car because gas is 2 a gallon. maybe they decided that 20,000+ could be spent elsewhere.

11. The networks used to sneer at hybrid technology.
Shame that it's becoming affordable now, when it's no longer affordable.
