To me, it's like a little flock of concerned birds fluttering around in the tree of DU... always looking for things of interest to bring into the tree for discussion...

No one of them/us holds much weight but you can detect the mood of the flock.

I usually try to lighten the general mood up a bit. I wonder how other DUers see their role here...

9. DU is kinda like porn.

I know interacting with people here doesn't accomplish anything, but it can be satisfying at some perverse level. Like when you really just need to rant, for emotional satisfaction knowing full damn well that you are preaching to the choir.

On the other hand, DU can be a life saver. I'll never forget getting information about Katrina before the MSM or president actually addressed the situation. So its a bit of both.

Sure I don't agree with everything I read, but this has been an invaluable resourse to me these past few years, before when I was a lurker then when I felt like joining because I wanted to contribute to the discussion. I am very thankful for it and thank everyone on here, whether I agree with them or not. Maybe it's time for you to find a new community, just saying. Or maybe you are just throwing the question out there and are perfectly happy with DU, cant really tell. I hope to hear your personal opinion on DU.

There are a lot of dumbfucks here, frankly. But there are also a lot of really smart people with differing life experiences who have taught me a thing or two. Or ten. I learn something new pretty much every time I look at the forum.

If someone doesn't think like I do, I don't much give a shit. This is America after all, and a wide range of views are to be expected. Even the Democratic Party is a "big tent," though we've got a few ideologues who only like the far left end of the tent, and are intolerant (without any of the attending irony that should accompany that perspective) of those poor bastards over on the right side of the Big Top. I have a pretty good view of the field from the middle, myself, though I wander all over the tent, depending on the topic at hand.
