A group of California Republicans once described by Ronald Reagan as the "conscience" of the GOP has decided to host a speech by this faux historian/fearmonger on Friday night. From Southern Poverty Law Center: The Murrieta-Temecula Republican Assembly, a local chapter of the conservative GOP activist group California Republican Assembly, says it will hear on April 3 from Scott Lively — a man it boastfully describes as "The Pastor Vilified by the Newspapers as a Hater Because of his stand Against the Promotion of Homosexuality." Lively, who runs Abiding Truth Ministries, co-authored the notorious book The Pink Swastika: Homosexuality in the Nazi Party and claims that "the Nazi Party was entirely controlled by militaristic male homosexuals throughout its short history.” The book’s crude thesis, that gay men played instrumental roles in forming the Third Reich and carrying out the Holocaust, has been thoroughly discredited by real historians.

Scott Lively is not a historian. He is a right-wing pastor (and lawyer) with an anti-gay agenda who has reimagined the Third Reich as a fantasy regime of militant homosexuals that took wicked delight in gassing Jews. (When they weren't busy gassing themselves, presumably.)

Lively believes that repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell would be "a mistake of historic proportions" because "the much bigger, longer-term problem is the threat of a homosexual takeover of the military branches. This bodes ill for the young men who will be our future draftees." He makes inane statements like, "Brownshirt leaders in Germany recruited boys from the local high schools for sex." and "Hitler's initial power base when he launched the Nazi Party was a private homosexual military force." Never mind the fact that over 50,000 gays were arrested and sent to concentration camps in Nazi Germany. (They were rounding up themselves!!!)

1. I will admit he is even more egregious than the people that Obama has appointed to the faith council
but it is only a matter of degree and not one of actual thought.

2. Now that's just sick.
That guy has a twisted imagination. Gays were victims of the holocaust. He might as well blame Jews for the holocaust while he's at it. Sick asshole.

4. Just the more open version
of half the White House. This is the Republican message, but the Democratic message is about the same, just a matter of degree.

5. Scott Lively coming back to the country?
Will he pay those nasty judgments in Oregon? Apologize to the woman he assaulted? Or is following the law only for other people?
