He and his right-wingers sure are getting desperate.
Dear Freedom Center Supporter,
As you are probably aware, the Freedom Center is engaged in a battle to roll back the gains made by the radical left.
This is a war on several fronts. In the next two weeks, I will make appearances on several campuses around the country to speak about how the left has substituted hardcore radical indoctrination for education.
Meanwhile, my colleague at the Center Robert Spencer, one of our country's most knowledgeable and courageous opponents of radical Islam, will also be appearing on campuses. And so will Nonie Darwish, a former Muslim who grew up in Egypt and has now becom e an outspoken opponent of Muslim violence against women.
All three of us willingly step into the lion's den to oppose the left. But our appearances are not without risk. There is an unholy alliance between hardcore left and pro Islamist groups on our campuses (which is why the three of us are engaged in this campaign) and we face a certain degree of danger every time we set foot in a university.
There are threats to disrupt or speeches or keep them from happening altogether. There are also more serious threats of real violence. I have personally had my speeches stopped by violent protests that threatened to get out of hand, and been physically assaulted on campus.
The last thing the Left wants is a free debate and an open exchange of ideas; they want to shut down whoever opposes them. And university administrators, who are all too often enablers of radicals, not only fail to provide security, but try to force the conservative stu dent groups that sponsor my a ppearances to pay for security out of their pockets, betting that these groups will be unable to come up with the money and that my speeches will therefore be cancelled.
We cannot let this happen. I have dedicated my life to pushing back against the left's takeover of our universities. That is why I, along with Robert Spencer, None Darwish and a handful of others, continue to put ourselves on the front lines. But opposing the campus left is not without cost, just as it is not without risk.
To ensure my safety and the safety of the other speakers it sends into the lion's den, the Freedom Center has to pay for security out of its own pocket. That is why I am asking you for help as we move into our Spring Offensive against the left. Please make an immediate contribution to our "Secure Free Speech on Campus" fund to help defray the costs of security so t hat we can continue the fight for free speech and against Islamo Fascism at our nation's universities.
We are asking our supporters to make a $50 donation to this "Secure Free Speech on Campus" fund - or whatever you can afford - so that we can keep the campus radicals at bay. Free speech, like freedom itself, isn't free. It is paid for by people like yourself who know what happens to a society where free speech is stifled.
By ensuring security at the speeches Robert Spencer, Nonie Darwish and I have scheduled, you ensure that these speeches will take place.
Thank you again for all you have done in supporting our fight for freedom, particularly on the crucial battleground of America's college campuses.
Sincerely,
David Horowitz President & Founder
