Oh Noes! Michelle actually touched the queen...latest Freeper hissyfit
"And The Queen was immediately healed of her leprosy"

"Michelle Obama KNOWS the etiquette rules but her personality did not allow her to follow them. Why would she...they follow no rules but make their own. She was sending a message....albeit rude one while in their country...but a message."

"Michelle really bugs me. Not only does she have no class, but she has no grace."

"Even somebody who is pretending to be president, as Obama is. And Michelle is low-class anyway, so we shouldn't expect her to know the proper protocol."

Ah...but it was not only appropriate, but classy when the boy king groped German Chancellor Angela Merkel with an unwelcome back rub, or repeatedly patted the bald heads of grown men.
They are in store for a very long eight years.

Michelle Obama charms queen away from protocol

"LONDON (AP) — Michelle Obama has done what few others have managed — getting Queen Elizabeth II to break protocol.

The first lady arrived Wednesday with President Barack Obama. After separate meetings on the eve of the G-20 summit, the couple attended an evening reception for world leaders hosted by the queen.

Mrs. Obama clearly made an impression with the 82-year-old monarch — so much that the smiling queen strayed from protocol and put her arm around the first lady in a rare public show of affection.

It was the first time Mrs. Obama — who is nearly a foot taller — had met the queen. The first lady also embraced her.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman who asked not to be identified because of palace policy said he could not remember the last time that the queen had displayed such public affection with a first lady or dignitary..."

1. What's their problem? Clearly, the queen acted first, and Michelle did exactly what you're supposed
to do -- follow the queen's lead. I think it's wonderful.

23. and humanity, including the humane human touch, trumps all
At first glance of the picture, I was reminded how recent the loss of Obama's grandmother... Seems Michelle showed a REAL (not thought out, or postured) response to an elderly, and somewhat frail looking (yeah, we know the Queen is one tough individual) woman, a woman who may also have evoked a familiar feeling of fondness in a family who recently lost a frail, but strong woman.

Seems a perfectly healthy, normal gesture and it seemed to have been well received. A pox upon those who would insist on protocol over humanity!

I go over there to from time to time out of morbid curiousity and it's obvious something's happened. As recently as December the most inane 'whatever' thread would have gathered a good hundred or so posts.

Now, flipping through the "News and Activism" threads you'll rarely see anything with over 50 responses.

Not sure what happened. I heard Jimbo had to send out a general "watch your mouth" notice after getting a call/visit from FBI/Secret Service but I find it hard to believe that even the most-challenged FReeper can't type a post without making a veiled threat regarding Obama.

53. "And Michelle is low-class anyway,"...
...in other words, she grew up in a black family of modest means, in a black neighborhood in America.

Gads these people are so transparent. They of course are using the terminology wrong. When one is discussing a person's fitness to meet heads of state and one bandies about the word "class", it means -- or should mean -- whether one has the appropriate air about one, good manners, the ability to communicate, to not make gaffes, etc. It does not mean "white and rich". But of course to these idiots, that is exactly what they mean when they call Michelle "low-class": black, and not born into wealth; ergo, low-class. Then they get to hang it on the supposed breach of protocol -- even thought Buckingham Palace has made it official that no breach occurred.

She has more class in her little finger than the whole lot of 'em on FR. Granted, that's not saying much.

60. I think we all know that had Michelle NOT returned the Queen's affectionate gesture
She would have been called "rude" and "cold". They would have said she was so full of herself that she thought she was above showing affection when it was shown to her.

But since she WAS warm and affectionate in return, of course that makes her rude and full of herself for "breaching" a (NONEXISTENT, according to Buckingham Palace) protocol.

They'll attack absolutely ANYTHING.
