Newt is bluffing.
He doesn't have guts. He is no Teddy Roosevelt.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is warning fellow Republicans that conservatives may leave the GOP for a third party in 2012.

“If the Republicans can’t break out of being the right wing party of big government, then I think you would see a third party movement in 2012,” Gingrich said Wednesday during a speech at the College of the Ozarks in Missouri, the local television station KY3 reported.

1. I think a split is quite possible . . . but it'll be between . . .

The christianist wackos and the social moderates/fiscal conservatives. For Dems, this would be a good thing, at least short-term: the christianists alienate everyone else, including regular non-crazy Christians, while the moderate/conservatives could get traction if not for the fact that fiscal conservatism is not what's called for these days, and there are many-many social problems stalled under the wackos that the people are really in favor of.

20 years from now, however, the social moderates (meaning no crack sold in elementary school and no more than two non-human spouses per marital affinity group)/fiscal conservatives might be a force to be reckoned with.

2. The GOP is dead. All that will be left over are whiny Libertarians
bigots and racists. There will be several opportunistic narcissistic people with no real conscience that will use the situation to gain notoriety and power.

5. I think they've been equally dead before.
I wouldn't feel too safe about it.

Nothing rises from the grave like a bad idea.

4. Actually, I see 4 parties
You could have the GOp split into libertarians (i.e. Corporate stooges), vs Jesszus freaks, then Obama/Clinton Moderates vs, Greens.

6. GOOPers could very well
splinter, they are getting more and more far out, don't know how any normal citizen could get behind them.

7. I wouldn't count the GOP out of it yet.
Don't underestimate the ability of Democrats to blow it by ignoring the interests of working-class folks and just concentrating on Wall Street, the stock market, etc.

8. Newt has left a loved one who was thought to be dying before.
Remember the first wife that had cancer and was preparing for an operation when Newtie really shit on her.
So I believe that Newtie can do it. No coubt he will wait until Rushie & co. are barely breathing and Newtie will drop his drwers and give 'em a full moon.
Newtie is just the kind of guy that CAN pull the plug on family, friend or stranger.

10. Breakaway Republics are going to form a new party from scratch, on the spur of the moment...
DURING an election year. Uh huh.

Seems to me that the Republicans who used "But I'm different now. Really" in the last election got their asses kicked. Several p(R)esidential candidates and a couple dozen Cong(R)essional incumbents spring to mind.

Just one question for Newt: With the same tired rhetoric coupled to policies and ideals which have failed the vast majority of the American people, how will anyone know the difference between the old and new Republicans? Eh, didn't think so.

BTW Newt, if you're looking for the TaliBaptist vote, don't mention you're a newly minted Catholic. Call yourself a Papist and they may let you slide. Yes, they're that ignorant.
