TALENT SHUFFLE SHAKES MSNBC

THE secretive hiring of Ed Schultz by MSNBC executives has thrown the cable channel into a panic.

On Wednesday, Keith Olbermann announced on his show that Schultz would be getting his own liberal, "politically oriented show" in the 6 p.m. time slot -- bumping David Shuster's "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue" to the 3-to-5 p.m. slot. The move forced "MSNBC Live," hosted by the net's chief Washington correspondent, Norah O'Donnell, out of the 3 p.m. position.

"It's ridiculous," an insider said. "They told us all about the changes at 8:50 p.m. -- 10 minutes before they told the rest of the world. And poor Norah. What's she going to do now? She's been crying all night and day. Just out of the blue, they take her show away. Nice, real nice."

Other employees are scared for their jobs.

"They also quietly hired Carlos Watson as an anchor but won't say for what show yet," our source said. "So everyone is wondering who else is going to be bumped." ....(More)

THE PROBLEM WITH A DISCLAIMER is its coming off as defensive, especially when it's preemptive. Trouble is, it's damned if do/don't: NOT including it first results in the predictable problems.

DISCLAIMER re: linking to the NY Post (for to head-off highly predictable, OT/hijacking posts):: Yes, it is a RAG. Yes, it is owned by NewsCorp/Faux's MURDOCH. No, he doesn't Dictaphone content to his gossip columnists. No, "gossip" does NOT equate to "UNtruth" (OR with "triviality" for that matter). These old time gossipers are more journalistically reliable than Tweety and such ilk. Frequently, political tidbits are here first, later to show up in more "respectable" venues. Keep friends close, enemies closer. Cherrypicking intel results in self-fulfilling FALSENESS. I got hooked on these gossipers when they were on the E!1 network and, when they were cancelled, tracked them down and they happened to be at the RAG (NY Post). ALL I read at the RAG are the gossip and the horoscope.

20. if she and her staff have fears for their jobs, maybe having a more substantive product
would have alleviated those fears

GOP Talking Points ad nauseum can only get you so far.

3. oh god
Didn't the press release from MSNBC say that they were just moving Norah to the morning? It's not like she had her own show anyway, it was just the anchor hour.

4. It's about time they beefed it up.
Now if they will get rid of Tweety ....

They can lose Contessa and Alex Witless, too.

6. Norah is a waste of space
I hope she and Contessa receive their pink slips. They may finally understand the suffering of millions of other people.

That said I was looking forward to Contessa pretending to be a 'live' hurricane reporter this season. She was providing a plethora of material for Jon Stewart.

7. This is what happens when the News Business becomes Show Busines.
Since it was decided that News is entertainment, Entertainers
are the logical selection.

8. Norah was crying about her show being cancelled according to the article - not Schultz getting hired
I just thought I'd point that out because the headline implies something different.

10. Wow. Hadn't seen that before.
She was literally sneering and twitching with hatred for Sheehan towards the end of that little montage.

No sympathy for Norah. She made her bed and it was plenty full of repukes.

On edit: Maybe Scar and meek girl will invite her to the morning repuke side show.

17. Not soon enough if you ask me.
Joe scumborough is so stupid. I am sick of Ronald Reagan and his hero worship of that fool. Every day they bring him up like dogs with a bone. Gregory is hopeless. Brokaw has him on a short leash and he has to follow orders. He is not too bright and is convinced that people like Rove are just fine. While they are at it some of the actress news readers like Contessa, Alex Witt, and a few others need to be gone. I like Schuster but he needs a little more seasoning. Tameron is pretty good and Monica Navotney is also. I could clean up that mess they have and make it better but they won't ask me.
