3. Is DesMoines still standing?
Has God decimated it yet? Is Fred Phelps in town.
I fear the fundies will descend like locusts on Iowa leaving piles of hypocrisy everywhere.

18. How does California's Constitution differ from Iowa's?
If they are quite similar then I am sure this case can establish precedent

6. Separation of Church and State is good for America.
Refraining from creating artificial "moral authority" will result in individual, stronger, more mature, moral decision makers.

9. Splendid news! I made the mistake of reading some of the comments.
I wish I wouldn't do that. It only serves to remind me that many of the stupidest people in our country read their news online. ;)

Nebraska voters passed a change in the constitution to make this kind of equality illegal.

K&R!

15. I am at work so I can't cry but damn this is so great.
I walked in this morning and saw two boys being affectionate (kissing, holding hands) and no one seemed to be bothered. Now this. We are winning this.

16. we are, but I still feel heartsick
about VT. Here the legislature votes hugely in favor of marriage equality and yet because we're a handful of votes under 2/3 in the House, our asshole gov will probably be able to veto it.

Did we make a mistake by choosing to do this legislatives instead of challenging Baker?

It's wonderful about Iowa though.

23. Love this Line from Senator McCoy
“I’m off the wall,” said Democratic Sen. Matt McCoy of Des Moines, who is openly gay. “I’m very pleased to be an Iowan.”

Then, as he saw a stream of grim-faced activists from the Supreme Court passing through security at the Iowa Capitol, he said: “The God squad’s coming in the door now.”

24. That caught my eye too. Also love the statement from this doofus:
“I don’t want this taught in schools,” Overton said. “Animals don’t do that. I don’t like it. I have small children, and I just don’t think this is right. I think the people ought to be allowed to vote on this instead of letting just a few people make all the rules.”

Don't want WHAT taught in schools? Law?

Animals don't do WHAT? Have marriage ceremonies? Pray to mythical gods? Guess he's right on that.

You "don't like it"? So does that mean you've tried it?

26. Animals don't do it?
Either they have not been around animals or have thouroghly ingored their personalities while they did (which considering how PEOPLE LIKE THAT treat animals is fucking par for the course...) because some animals are gay all the time.

Our omega wolf hybrid was gay. He would get sexual with other male dogs at the drop of a hat. He liked old bulldog types for some reason, my husband always said he went after the Ernest Borgines of the canine world.

Stupid fundies, animals have always been gay.

I guess I was caught up in the moment. And living in a liberal oasis that is nevertheless surrounded by Dumbfukistan, it's hard to remember there are states like MA and CT!
