Alaskan Republicans want Begich to resign because charges were dropped against Ted Stevens
Edited on Fri Apr-03-09 09:21 AM by ck4829
Yesterday, Attorney General Eric Holder said that he was asking a judge to drop all charges against former Alaska senator Ted Stevens because of prosecutorial misconduct by Justice Department lawyers. In response, the Alaska Republican party today sent out a press release hailing the announcement and calling for the resignation of Sen. Mark Begich (D-AK), who defeated Stevens this past November:

The Alaska Republican Party further believes that current Senator Mark Begich should resign his position to allow for a new, special election, so Alaskans may have the chance to vote for a Senator without the improper influence of the corrupt Department of Justice.

The only reason Mark Begich won the election in November is because a few thousand Alaskans thought that Senator Ted Stevens was guilty of seven felonies. Senator Stevens has maintained his innocence and now, even the Department of Justice acknowedges it’s (sic) wrong doing.

With all this whining, one should wonder why Republicans haven't sent pork to the Waahmbulance making industry.

2. I understand Steven's position. Falls under the "Fruit of the Poisonous Tree"
Begich never would have won without the outrage towards Stevens.

I dont support, but I understand. Now let's see what the spineless Dems do about it. Maybe out of guilt, they'll give Franken's seat to Coleman.

4. Maybe, but an election was held, Begich won, and was certified. Too late to 'undo' it.

Stevens is free to run for the seat again in 2014.

3. Stevens is a crook. Of course the Rushlicans want him.
Just because the Bush DOJ made a bunch of evidence inadmissable due to their incompetence doesn't mean that Teddy boy didn't take all that stuff, fail to report it and then lie to the Feds. He did all of those things.

And now the GOPers want a do-over because Bush-appointed legal malfeasance lets their criminal ex-Senator off the hook? Riiiight.

5. How could they KNOW that Senator Mark Begich
only won because of charges against Steven's? Didn't many Repugs lose everywhere? Wasn't it because of their idiotic policies? I'm guessing Palin will lose next time too because of antiquated policies and stupidity having been exposed. I think they all knew Steven's wasn't the most honest man before this and didn't care...but once the economy hit bottem they realized their POLICIES were shit-assed backwards for regular people...

6. Can You Say "Screw You"?
That should be Begich's response. Stevens asked for a speedy trial before the election. The loss was his fault, simple as that. Mark Begich is the duly elected Senator from Alaska. Deal with it, guys.
