Indictment suggests Rahm, brother were victims of extortion attempt

"Rahm Emanuel appears to have been a victim of one of the extortion attempts with which former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was charged tonight.

Patrick Fitzgerald's indictment refers to two incidents involving "Congressman A": In one, Blagojevich discusses approaching the unnamed congressman to broker a deal for Obama's Senate seat.

In another, unrelated, charge, Blagojevich in 2006 allegedly demanded that the congressman or his brother -- Emanuel's high-profile sibling is super-agent Ari Emanuel -- hold a fundraiser for the governor in exchange for releasing $2 million to support a publicly funded school.

Blagojevich "wanted it communicated to United States Congressman A that United States Congressman A's brother needed to have a fundraiser" for Blago, the indictment says.

The grant, the indictment says, had already been approved, and the school had begun to incur expenses..."

The final sentence:

"The indictment notes that Emanuel did not, in fact, hold the fundraiser; the money was released anyway."

1. Talk about trying to shake down the wrong frigging tree!

That shows how dumb the hapless Blago is....Rahm is the Tough Guy's tough guy!

2. Blago's pretty dumb, isn't he?

It's hard to belive that anyone would try to put the screws to Rahm. Everything I've heard about the guy is that he is one person you don't mess with.

3. Rahm Emanuel is the one that Blago wanted to bring in as a witness to his purity

Blago wanted to put Emanuel on the stand as a character witness in the impeachment hearing. Remember THAT little tidbit?

I'm starting to think more and more that Blago might just try and pull off an insanity plea--except there is SO much in this indictment that I'm not sure he'd be able to skate on every count.
