About two years ago I surprised to learn that a friend of mine had been taken away by the FBI and extradited to France. The "reason" was a twenty year old solved robbery in France that he may have had a minimal or bare technical relation to. Regardless when delivered to France the authorities served no papers and he walked free.
Free except that his family missed him terribly. Small daughter cried for six months every night.
This fiasco cost the American tax payer tens of thousands of dollars. The FBI set up a "Task Force" and sting operation when all they had to do was knock on his door.
He was listed in the phone directory AND the DMV under his real name.
The FBI and ATF made sure a HUGE article was printed in the local paper showing they had solved a MAJOR JEWEL ROBBERY!!!
And again, he lost his business to make a few headlines for the AUTHORITIES.
Well I'm pleased to report that the man is back on a Visa and I gave him some casual work in construction this past week. Now that's kinda lame as he had a successful small business prior to being deported.
You gotta be doing real pitiful to be hired by poor old Wiley.
But the man is back. It's not a happy ending but it could have been much worse. It was bad enough the way it was.
