I am ashamed of DUers hoping for political motivation for NY shooting
1) People lost their lives, do we have to rush to find political opportunity out of the deaths of innocent victims?

2) Early reports suggest the shooter is an Asian male. What if he is an immigrant? That same political advantage that some sought blows up in the face of those of us who support immigration reform.

3) If the shooter was inspired by Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck and/or Dobbs there will be plenty of time to hold them accountable.

When tragedy strikes our first reaction should be human not political.

1. I mostly agree, except this is a political website
And everything is looked at through a political lense. And this incident stinks of terrorism that we've seen in mass shooting before.

2. I agree. No one knows what is going on.
He could be a person angry about what has happened in his own life. It could have nothing to do with politics.

It's knee jerk reaction to be sure but I think we're all guilty of it at some point.

You say "If the shooter was inspired by Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck and/or Dobbs there will be plenty of time to hold them accountable."

We didn't hold them accountable for the last one--though their books were exclusive among his reading material in his home. Just sayin....

13. Show Me A Post Of Someone "Hoping"
Speculating? Yes. That's not surprising considering the hate towards immigrants that comes from Republicans.

24. So That Poster Is "Hoping"?
Edited on Fri Apr-03-09 12:58 PM by Beetwasher
According to you?

I don't think so.

Frankly, I dunno the motivations. But I don't "hope" it's a Republican, it merely wouldn't surprise because of their outspoken hate. I actually hope it's NOT as that would indicate these hatemongers are actually achieving some modicum of success, at least from their POV.

It's a tragedy all around regardless of motivation, however, speculating on motivation is hardly "hoping" for a specific one.

People ascribing "hope" as a motivation for certain posts here would be guilty of what they are accusing. They are speculating as to someone elses motivation for doing something.

17. are you sure they are hoping and not just thinking? when a gay man gets shot
i think homophobia fuelled it. when an immigrant center is under siege i think xenophobia etc. i may be later proved wrong, but thats just my immediate thought.

this doesnt i wanted the tragedy, nor that i dont view it as a tragedy

20. I don't know. I think there's a degree of "hoping"
Same thing happens on threads about politicians in sex scandals- wanting them to be pukes. And when I hear that someone who's asian or of asian descent attacks an immigrant center, I think it's probably personal.

It's unhealthy to see everything in a political angle. It causes distortion of the truth. Myopia.

Plus, it's extremely annoying to others.

Dude...it's the internet...nothing is above being politicized or shit on.

Go on to any one of the "Obama Sucks, none of this would have happened if <whatever batshit nutty candidate I endorse> were elected" thread, if you want to see a bunch of people politicizing misery, pain and poverty. We can't get enough of that here.

Half these mother fuckers, are holding their breath, in hopeful anticipation of an entire global economic collapse, and the resultant war/death/enthic-cleansing that will follow, just so their views get vindicated, and they can dance atop the rubble in masturbatory glee while chanting "I TOLD YOU SO!!!"

And you think a few people getting shot is above all that here?
