ALBANY — Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco will either step aside or face a vote of no confidence next week as he awaits the outcome of his deadlocked House race, Assembly sources say.
An unhappy Republican conference is set to take action next week if Tedisco refuses to quit his Assembly leadership post, according to several insurgents who spoke on condition of anonymity.
One legislative member said Tedisco, of Schenectady County, is expected to announce within 48 hours that he's resigning to make way for Assemblyman Brian Kolb to take over the leadership post.
Spokesmen for Tedisco did not respond to inquiries Thursday, and Kolb, a Canandaigua Republican, did not return a call.
Another member of the conference said a vote of no-confidence was planned for Monday because members believe Tedisco should step down after spending six weeks running for Congress in the special election to fill the unexpired term of Kirsten Gillibrand, who was named to the U.S. Senate. Some members said they were willing to let Tedisco keep his leadership post during the 20th Congressional District race against Democrat Scott Murphy, but would now like to hand the conference to Kolb.
