I am watching V is for Vendetta for the first time...
I know...late to the party.

I am 7 minutes into it and already recognize too much that is familar to today.

Will my sleep be ruined tonight if I continue to watch it?????

12. There were some gory scenes in it, but...
...not enough to lose sleep over. I'm in the middle when it comes to "gushing" vs. "stupid". I enjoyed it, and it's worth seeing, but not a "must see". I guess I just like "revenge" movies, especially when the revenge is is taken on Bush-like religio-fascists.

Check back in when you have finished the movie.

6. Not unless simplistic movies keep you up at night.
I know, I know, I'm a heretic. I couldn't stand it.

10. I couldn't believe how stupid it was after hearing so many people absolutely GUSHING over it.
Sure as hell didn't ruin MY sleep, it simply pissed me off. Totally pseudo/faux artsy-arch superficial garbage.

My main reaction was despair that so many people were so fucking clueless as to find such gawdawful tripe "meaningful".

15. Same here. It's just a popcorn movie with pretensions to art.

It's like Watchmen: an overwrought but generally enjoyable comic book turned into a movie with little purpose but to inform the audience that it is film.

11. Don't bother - buy the book (which came first) instead
it's much, much better than the resulting film.

13. There was a great deal of excitement in the UK
about V for Vendetta; if it had been closer to the book it may have fallen foul of ZanuNuLabs Promotion of Terrorism Laws.

I the end there was far too much Hollywood love story for the Authorities to get themselves worked up about. The message was not there though, the British have proven time and time again all the Government needs to do is sell another bogeyman and the public applaud as their rights are removed.

14. Watching the 2005 movie in 2009 is interesting.
The idea that government could harm its own citizens in so many ways no longer seems
surreal.
That is the horrible part.
I think I shall get the book.

Movie will stay in my head for a bit, that is for sure.

18. It was written in the early Thatcher era.
The film version seems to draw more on the Bush/Cheney era.

It's well worth the time to watch the film and read the book.

21. keep watching
One of the best films in the last 10 years for certain. The last few scenes are especially stirring. I've seen it several times since the first and seems to get better with repeated viewings. Hugo Weaving is fantastic in the role. The pirate broadcast that V puts out to the populace is especially relevant to today's world...."There's something terribly wrong about our country..."
