Forty-one years ago, I had tickets to see Bill Cosby live, at Kansas University

being a broke college student, I took the refund..wish now that I had not:(

1. I was a freshman in high school

Heard the news when I got home from school. Sat down and cried.

2. Not taking the refund wouldn't have changed anything

so you shouldn't feel bad about it. I would think that Cosby was paid, too; event sponsors should have insurance.

3. I was living on campus at WV State College

We had an impromptu candle light vigil that night.

4. I had just skipped 5th grade and was cowering in a 6th grade classroom.

Everybody seemed about ten years older and all the girls were on a diet. :scared:

5. I suspect that I was fiddling with the ham radio not expecting a nation shaking event.

So I don't know what it was like to see MLK killed. The social background of when he came of age, I have no idea.

I do recall, though, that 1968 just seemed to me like a year in which everyone was getting shot.

My parents had taken my brothers somewhere that I wasn't interested in (shopping for clothes for them?), and I was watching TV when the news broke.

I recall that the live coverage switched to some gathering that was all African-American, and the shocked and grief-stricken reaction of the crowd when the man on the stage announced the assassination is one image that remains with me.
