Fear Of Obama Taking Guns Leads To 3 Dead Police Officers

We're gathering more information about Richard Polawski, the 23-year-old man who decided to kill four Pittsburgh police officers and wound five others because it appears he was afraid they -- at the behest of the Obama administration -- were going to take his guns away. (Dude, they definitely are now.)

Seems he was laying in wait in a carefully planned ambush:

Richard Poplawski, 23, met officers at the doorway and shot two of them in the head immediately, Harper said. An officer who tried to help the two also was killed.

Poplawski, armed with an assault rifle and two other guns, then held police at bay for four hours as the fallen officers were left bleeding nearby, their colleagues unable to reach them, according to police and witnesses. More than 100 rounds were fired by the SWAT teams and Poplawski, Harper said.

And he was paranoid about the Obama administration taking people's guns away -- even though, of course, there have been no indications of any such plans beyond NRA rantings:

Poplawski feared "the Obama gun ban that's on the way" and "didn't like our rights being infringed upon," said Edward Perkovic, his best friend.

Perkovic, 22, said he got a call at work from him in which he said, "Eddie, I am going to die today. ... Tell your family I love them and I love you."

Perkovic said: "I heard gunshots and he hung up. ... He sounded like he was in pain, like he got shot."

Poplawski had once tried to join the Marines, but was kicked out of boot camp after throwing a food tray at a drill sergeant, Perkovic said.

Dennis Roddy at the Post-Gazette has more:

Friends described a Richard Poplawski far different from the 22-year-old man accused of gunning down three police officers today -- a partier sometimes, a guy in search of an understanding of politics, even a walking comedian.

He was also convinced that the government wanted to take away his guns and his freedom.

There are bits about him out on the Internet. There are the MySpace photos, like the one above. He also seems to have co-created an "Insane Ownage" video for You Tube.

Perhaps just as interesting are the views of Poplowski's much-quoted "best friend," Edd Perkovic, whose MySpace page, as Troll Report notices, is rich anti-Semitic hate talk like this:

DOCUMENTS I RECCOMEND YOU READ BY GOOGLE: "Civil War II" by Tom Chittum "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" "The Turner Diaries" by Dr. William Pierce "Jewish Supremacy" by Dr. David Duke It Has Even Been Documented In The Communist Manifesto: "“We must realize that our party’s most powerful weapon is racial tension. "By propounding into the consciousness of the dark races that for centuries they have been oppressed by the whites, we can mold them to the program of the Communist Party. "In America we will aim for subtle victory. While inflaming the Negro minority against the whites, we will endeavour to instill in the whites a guilt complex for their exploitation of the Negros. "We will aid the Negros to rise to prominence in every walk of life, in the professions, and in the world of sports and entertainment.

Meanwhile, Fox also interviewed Tom Moffit, who was a neighbor of Poplawski's. He apparently believed that Poplawski was acting out of gun paranoia as well.

5. I disagree but then I do not support capital punishment
His trial needs to be covered live so that his other gun loving friends who believe they can kill for sport will all understand that they too will be heading to prison for four life sentences at the end of the trial. In other words, not one will ever see either freedom or a gun again for the rest of their days.

Mentally ill ?
He sounds like a typical member of the republican base.

Mentally ill is "the cops are aliens that have come to probe me, I must kill them"

This guy holds the same views as many many republicans.

23. I know what mentally ill is, I have a brother with schizophrenia and my Dad worked for NAMI
I don't want to diagnose this guy who I knew nothing about until today, but when I read the story the first thing I thought is that he was mentally ill. Yes he holds the same views as many Republicans, but there are mentally ill Republicans. This guy sounds like he was completely delusional, and not just in the normal Republican way. Again I don't want to make a diagnosis with the small amount of information I have, but I think there is a very high probability that he is in fact mentally ill.

He could be an undiagnosed schizophrenic. Of course, hard to say, but it is something I would explore if I were on the case.

37. OK, here's how to do the process
Convene a military trial (that's how conservatives say terrorists should be tried), appoint him counsel, find him guilty and then put him to death.

It should take no longer than 30 days.

Their hate-mongering, fear-peddling spew has now officially killed innocent people--in this case, the very people whose job it was to protect the rest of us from THEM. I wish there were a word for this mixture of extreme irony and extreme outrage that I'm experiencing, right now.

if people like Hannity, Limbaugh, Blubbering Beck and of course don't forget the Congresswoman Bachman, all screaming about how Obama and the Democrats are gonna take your guns.

They too have blood on their hands, and they are playing with fire in the stress of this economy. They are feeding into this, and it should be stopped. this is equivalent as yelling fire in a crowded theater.

25. What do you expect?
Every time a Democrat gets elected President the gun lobby and gun nuts get whipped up into a lather and start doing crazy shit to "defend their rights". I can't tell you how many of those fuckers I work with made a gun and ammo run as soon as Obama was elected. Then, when the prices went up because of the increased demand they blamed it on Obama.

Gun culture in general is loaded with crazy fucks like this.

33. No, being a self-absorbed insecure violent piece of garbage
led To 3 Dead Police Officers. Obama taking his guns is this week's excuse for taking his self-hatred out on the world.

People like Bachman, Beck and whoever else is out there advocating for a violent overthrow of the government and manipulating the unhinged among us should have anticipated such outcome and do own the responsibility for their role in triggering such events. But the headline is BS. It sounds like nothing would have happened if this guy wasn't afraid Obama was going to take his guns. If it hadn't have been that it would have been something else.

The guy lost his job and has demonstrated a history of not being able to controlled his juvenile impulses. He's not exactly a role model for revolution, but he's certainly would like to believe he is in order to excuse his uncontrolled rage and give it legitimacy in his own twisted mind. Because it's a whole lot better than admitting to himself he is just one giant loser.
