The MOYERS - BLACK threads (indexed here) at least identified the pain in my gut
Edited on Sat Apr-04-09 05:59 PM by UTUSN
1 - I have ZERO comprehension in Economics. I have chosen to DENY or FORGET whether I got an F or whether the prof gave me a Pity-D.

2 - I have had this gnawing unease about the trillions-here/trillions-there from the start. GEITHNER didn't soothe my unease from the start.

3 - The PBS transcript of the MOYERS-BLACK interview (see Junkdrawer's thread) was both enlightening and enraging. So what do we peons do? Why isn't BLACK all over the media, not to mention INSIDE the Administration calling the shots? Do the other media motormouths NOT listen to MOYERS or catch up (as here) with a transcript?!1

4 - So Japan went through this (The Lost Decade), meaning there will be SOME END someday (a spot of HOPE).

5 - Is Senator KERRY, with his history with the S&L thing, NOT on some finance committee, or can he get the investigation and solution going anyway? Or whomever!1

At least a diagnosis gives a certain amount of relief in KNOWING what's wrong. The hope in BLACK's interview is that OBAMA could still get things on the correct track "in several weeks" or "a few weeks" or somesuch.

What can we do? How can we get the ball going with the media and KERRY?

3. Yes, the title is very compelling and makes one pause to consider "hidden agendas."

4. Not sure that Kerry would be the right

person to deal with this mess. He was fully on board with Gramm when Congress voted overwhelmingly to get rid of the Glass Steagal Act.

I would rather have someone like Sen. Dorgan or Feingold, who voted against the Gramm/Leach/Sliley bill that essentially ended the regulations put in place after the Great Depression. Dorgan predicted what is now happening in 1999 when he voted against it. I'm not sure why Kerry voted for it, but so did most Democrats, including Biden.

Imo, what is needed to fix this mess, are people who got it right in the past, not those who got it wrong.

5. I bookmarked your thread and when in doubt...
trust your gut.

On the 700 billion bailout back in September.

A person on CNBC said at the time that there are snake oil salesmen on both sides of the aisle trying to sell this plan. Also that "history is loaded with leaders that tell the masses that everything is so horrible you have to do something NOW..."

I think he was right.

9. I hope Obama catches on and makes some big, needed, but painful changes.
He is going to have to let the big bankers slide if he is to ever get this crisis under control.

I'm not sure he will do that. He listens to the wrong people, bankers who are part of the problem.

He is being advised to repair a collapsing bridge with spackle but no matter how expensive it is, will only result in a bigger disaster later.

And then we will be JUSTIFIED in blaming Obama.

Either Obama makes concrete, strong moves to fix previous administration's problems by eliminating all corrupted bankers from the game, even if it hurts, or else the crime become HIS and everything he has been working for will be nullified.
