She was hailed the new Jackie Onassis and wowed all she met on her inaugural tour. Then along came Michelle Obama.

Last April Carla Bruni, the other half – well, three-quarters – of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, was crowned the world’s most glamorous First Lady.

But a year on, a new contestant has entered the First Wives Club beauty pageant and Carla seems less than enchanted.

As these pictures show, when Michelle, 45, left Britain for France and Germany this week she found that, unlike Sarah Brown, Carla’s welcome was more cordial than cosy.

I have been corrected on several things, for instance how your Correctly pronounce the money "Euro". That was by a tweener with much aghastdom.

'Tis funny, going from rural WA to rural France, similarities and differences. Just not a big city person here. I enjoy visiting the cities, art museums, etc, but not to live.
