2. At least 50 dead--40,000 to 50,000 made homeless:
L’AQUILA, Italy — A total of 50 people died and tens of thousands were left homeless when an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 shook central Italy early Monday morning, seriously damaging buildings in the mountainous Abruzzo Region east of Rome, officials said.

Interior Minister Roberto Maroni gave the death toll as 50, while a spokesman for Italy’s Civil Protection Agency said on national television that an estimated 40,000 to 50,000 people had been left homeless by the quake.

3. People forget that Italy is earthquake prone.
When my great-grandpa was just a boy, about 7, there was a massive earthquake in "the boot" of Italy. His entire family died: both parents and 8 brothers and sisters. He survived.

Peace to everyone who is affected by this.
