The right is erupting over President Obama's "American arrogance" comment
They're really going nutso over this slight criticism/admission by the President. Really, the statement Obama made in Strasbourg about America having been arrogant at times and dismissive toward its allies in Europe, couldn't have been milder, and it was balanced with criticism for Europes sometimes attitude about the U.S.

The most disturbing thing about the wingnut furor to me, is that I don't believe they're just doing it for political purposes; they really are outraged over President Obama speaking about an "American fault".

And you can expect them to keep trying to build this nonsense up.

2. Well then you should have watched the CNN hacks
interviewing David Frum(p) for his opinion on Obama's take on the differences between him and Bush. Now I know why I don't watch CNN :puke:

3. It's great - they are going to experience the frustration we felt with Bush - but for SANE reasons

The far right is torn between the facts and their hatred. It's going to cause their pudding-filled heads to explode - hilarious.

5. anything to distract the american public from the truth
the truth is 30,000 or more will be laid off this week, millions can not afford to send themselves or their children to the doctor, and hundreds of thousands will fall another month behind in their mortgage payments.

tens of millions of the people in the usa could care less about what obama said in europe because they have more important things to worry about.

7. part of their FREAK OUT
may be related to Faux News's coverage:

They left half of his speech on the cutting room floor, and just played the part where he criticized America. They left out the part where he called for Europe to stop being anti-American.

Typical. they report, freeps fall in line.

8. The President did mis-speak a bit...
He should have said "American arrogance led by an ultra-arrogant, authoritarian Neo-Con mentality." That wouldn't have been as good a sound-bit, of course, but far more to the point.

9. I think that what he said was sufficient because that way

he was not only saying sorry for the imperial conduct under wingnut command, but also for all our follies and arrogance under Clinton.
Just remember that Europe is still full of resentment for what was pulled in the Balkans in the 90's. For many in Europe the "tyranny of good intentions" is no better than the "wingnut tyranny" - and I think they have a point.

Anyway, I did like the speech, especially his mutual, rational approach. This could really be a common ground to start a transatlantic partnership on a sound basis.

12. They react like that because they have a real fear of having
to ever own up to mistakes made by their government. Apparently, their own feelings of self worth are decided by the need to feel that America is never wrong and when it is wrong, it's important to pretend it isn't.

14. Just point them to Rumsfeld's "Old Europe" comment
That was perceived as VERY arrogant and it WAS intended to be an insult.

And that America has been arrogant can hardly be denied with Chimpy in the White House for 8 years.

The man BREATHED arrogance.

Or "Bring it on!"

Or "Go it alone."

Or "Old Europe."

Or "Mission Accomplished."

Or imposing "democracy" on Iraq at the muzzle of a gun without knowing if the Iraqi people even want it, getting many thousands killed in the process.

...

20. I hope he says something similar at the Summit of the Americas on the 17th.
There is no region (with the possible exception of the Middle East, in view of the Iraq War) that more deserves an admission of U.S. arrogance than South America, where as recently as this last September the U.S. (Bushwhacks) funded and organized a violent white separatist coup attempt in Bolivia. The arrogance, insult and interference--including many bloody horrors--have been pretty much non-stop for the entire previous century, up to and including President Obama speaking Bushwhack psyops lines about Hugo Chavez--a president who can actually prove that he was elected (unlike our own, whom I believe was elected, but, with the Bushwhack corporate-run 'TRADE SECRET' code voting machines, the proof does not exist).

The people of South America are not anti-American, on the whole. Indeed, they are Americans. They just don't like to be pushed around, and their democracies destroyed, by our bully government in the interest of our global corporate predators. They're not far away. They're right here, in our hemisphere--the long brutalized and exploited, and deliberately impoverished people of Latin America. And we most certainly owe them an apology and a fresh start. They have healthier democracies than ours, right now, and we can learn from them how it's done. Transparent vote counting; grass roots organization; think big. Those are the three keys to the peaceful, democratic, leftist revolution that has swept South America and is beginning to sweep Central America (with the election of leftist governments in El Salvador and Nicaragua and center-left in Guatemala).

The correct thing to do, the humane thing to do, the moral thing to do will ALWAYS piss off those fucking blowhards.
