Kentucky gun show features Obama-Hitler shirts and warnings to ‘prepare for Obama’s citizen army.’

As ThinkProgress has noted, the right wing continues to escalate its fear-mongering that President Obama will take away Americans’ Second Amendment rights. In a New York Times op-ed this weekend, Charles Blow reported that such rhetoric “has helped fuel the panic buying of firearms.” On Saturday, the Washington Independent’s Dave Weigel went to the bi-annual Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot in Kentucky and saw this phenomenon first-hand:

Weigel noted that all three boxes of the Hitler-Obama shirt had sold out by 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. In November, ThinkProgress went to The Nation’s Gun Show in Chantilly, VA, which featured similar fear-mongering. For example, an ad in the Washington Post for the event read, “GET YOUR GUNS WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!”

8. It's deadly to others

Two mass shootings in recent days linked to lunatics who thought Obama was going to take away their guns.

6. There's only one thing to say about that...
The first, last and ONLY presidentially-ordered gun grab in the history of the Republic was signed by George W. Bush. (It was in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.)

12. It's really too bad we can't get them all into 5 or 6
big red states and let them alone with their bibles and guns. These people need to live in a world of their own.

The world is passing them by and they are really pissed about it.

13. "Hitler Gave Great Speeches Too" ????
But, but . . . I thought Obama couldn't give speeches. Thought all he could say without a teleprompter was Um.

This is so confusing.

15. It's a sign of the polarization that has taken place in this country
We will have the same sorts of things when there is a Republican President again. I really don't remember Americans being united on support of a President ever since LBJ took the oath after the death of John F. Kennedy.

Vietnam, Watergate, Iran, the Gulf War, impeachment, Afghanistan, and Iraq have produced profound political divisions in Americans, and carved us up into an us vs. them mentality. It will take a lot of successes attributable to the Obama Administration to put that toothpaste back in the tube.

17. Reminds me of DU during the bush admin

He didn't stay in power, abortion is still legal, we weren't swept away into fema camps (Although Obama is working on that I hear from folks in the dungeon...), we didn't attack Iran the 50 or so times we were supposed to, and the list goes on.

The opposition usually does all it can to make the leader of the current party look as bad as possible, and peddle fear.

19. Because, I think, people want to believe it
So they accept any info that supports their feelings as fact. Even if shown not true they will say things like 'yeah, but it probably is true in some fashion'.
