factors in certain psychological properties" and (similar to the Death Card in Tarot) what is coming may or may not be actual death, or death may only be a part of it (which it ALWAYS is, BTW), but the basic thing is that resources for certain large historic trends are maxing out (surprise! Surprise!), so a Fundamental macro-shift will occur sometime (not necessarily December 21, 2012) and that shift will include essential psychological corelates.

... nobody really knows where this mayan "2012" has come from. It's not science, it's not historic, it's the kind of witch doctorism that was rampant in the Weimarer Republik and actually that's exactly where that stuff comes from. Ultimately from Blavatsky and the other witch doctors.
You need to patch up allot of unrelated stuff to come to the conclusion that the mayans believe something would end in 2012. Mind you, why does their long count calendar go over the date of 2012?

I don't believe any historian would ever subscribe to your definition of the mayan calendar.

But that is so off, topic, sorry, I really didn't want to sidetrack, let's talk about the real 2012.

I'm comfortable with the concept that it is possible for humans to create various kinds of calculators and those calculators can produce descriptive formulations/language that range from a 1:1 relationship between the phenomenal world and the formulation that refers to it, such as the Pythagorean Theorem, to formulations that loose much more in the translation.
