Prediction: Because of Vermont decision, NH will legalize same-sex marriage this year too
Edited on Tue Apr-07-09 01:13 PM by t0dd
:loveya:

I believe there is a much greater chance now because VT has done so. The NH senate could take up the bill as soon as this week. It has already passed the house.

Gov. Lynch, a democrat, opposes same-sex marriage, but he'll have a lot more pressure now to sign the bill because of the VT decision. What do you guys think?

And maybe Maine and New Jersey too!

1. Good luck, New Hampshire - I'm afraid Texas will need a lot more work
I took this photo at a protest of Gov. Rick "Goodhair" Perry in Fort Worth back in 2005:

Hopefully, one of these days, she and her beloved will have their chance.

8. Text language sign...I love it...
My DINO state rep, here in MA, would say "She has the same right to get married as everyone else does...as long as it is not to someone from the same sex".

Just brilliant, my state rep! I'm so proud!...NOT

2. Smart thing to do in this economy
Marriages, babies and deaths are big money. Heck, just say the word wedding to a vendor and the cost is multiplied by four! Vermont could become this generation's Niagara Falls!!!!!

10. Since the civil union law, money has poured into VT.
It has been a boon to bed-and-breakfast places, catering services, photographers, and all other aspects of the marriage industry here. This lobby probably had much to do with ratifying gay marriage rights here.

That's why I advocate instituting CUs first, waiting some years to let the homophobes get over it, and for the marriage industry to recognize the financial windfall associated with it - then go for equal marriage rights. I've seen it happen here.

14. I guess, the industry could 'get people twice'
first with Civil Unions and then with marriages. I'm for marriage equality over civil unions, but financially, your way is more lucrative :-)

The B and Bs are exactly what I pictured when reading this thread. What a great setting for a wedding, lovely photographs, wonderful East Coast Cuisine.... almost makes me want to do it all over again :-) (with the same guy of course!)

5. When I lived in NH, NH people didn't care one iota what VT did.

But maybe times have changed.

13. With our current budget crunch
and the NH Rooms & Meals tax at 8% - if somebody from the budget office stands up in the legislature and projects the revenue - it'll be a shoo-in.
Book a big celebrity gay wedding into the Balsams, and you'll be able to get the Gov. to perform the ceremony.
