Politico: New campaign fights same-sex marriage
April 08, 2009

The National Organization for Marriage, a prominent backer of the successful campaign against same-sex marraige in Califorrnia, is launching a $1.5 million ad campaign this morning aimed at forestalling same-sex marriage support in other key states.

The campaign, whose 60-second television ad is above, seeks to energize the opponents of gay marriage by making the case that it will impinge directly on their own lives. The ads will air in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, and Iowa.

"The biggest argument – and the biggest lie – put forward by those who want to redefine marriageis that it's not going to have any affect on you. 'Why should you care? It’s not going o have any affect on your marriage," said NOM executive director Brian Brown. "In state after state we’ve seen same-sex marriage directly conflict with people’s religious beliefs."

<snip>

Backers of same-sex marriage "are saying that it’s right for the law to treat us as evil discriminators," he said.

The ad above, another 30-second spot, feature people claiming same-sex marriage has specifically harmed them, and that with a "storm gathering," they're "afraid."

1. "we’ve seen same-sex marriage directly conflict with people’s religious beliefs."
Who cares?! Are these people serious? I'll take them serious when they run ads that say divorce "directly conflict with people’s religious beliefs."

3. The people in the northeast don't seem to care

and after a while I think Iowans will get used to it too. I'll bet anyone that divorce rates will stay constant in IA.

It's time for these religious nuts to get over it.

4. Your freedom of religion ends where mine begins.
"In state after state we’ve seen same-sex marriage directly conflict with people’s religious beliefs."

I love the reasoning behind this. These same people must feel threatened by the fact that not everyone in the world agrees with their idea of God, too. They may as well make an ad saying that they're worried that schoolteachers will tell their children that there are Buddhists in the world.

And in the ad itself... how is the "California Doctor" having to make a decision between her faith and her job? Because she might have to treat a patient's same-sex spouse the same way she would treat a patient's opposite-sex spouse? Is it against her religion to treat gays with the same dignity and respect she would afford straight people? I'm really feeling sorry for her. :eyes:

5. They don't understand that not everyone worships their God.
Their God is a hateful, vengeful God, but not all Christians believe in that kind of a God. Many Christians, if not most, believe in a loving, all-encompassing God.

These Reich-wing "Christians" are arrogant SOBs. They think only their vision of religion is valid, which really is amazing considering they completely and totally ignore the teachings of Jesus Christ.

6. If they're so concerned about marriage, they ought to dwell on the divorce rate.
