Have you received your "tea party" robocall yet?
Went something like this: "Have you heard about the tea parties that people concerned about the direction our government is going are having? Ask around." (click)

Sounded like the voice of Glenn Beck, but happily I haven't heard it enough to be sure.

I'm on the Do Not Call Registry; big shocker that the self-styled freedom lovers don't respect that.

1. Weird they'd pump so much money into these things.

5. Especially to be so non-specific. I guess they're counting on water-cooler conversation
to lead people to Glenn Beck, or internet searches will get you there. An actual internet search of 'tea party columbia sc' gets one a Free Republic post about a tax day tea party here, and a post from another forum I hadn't heard of before to the effect that our esteemed governor (you know, the guy who doesn't want stimulus money for the state with the 2d highest unemployment rate in the country) would be speaking there. Hey, maybe it wasn't a robocall; maybe it was really Mark Sanford...

4. Not a good use of resources
They didn't say where or when the event was going to be held, at least on the call I received. If you want people to show up, you gotta tell them where and when!

6. All political and charity robo calls are exempt from the law.
It is too bad that politicians continue to exempt themselves from Do Not Call law.

StopPoliticalCalls.org is fighting for the privacy of the American voter.

1 - Creating a Political Do Not Call Registry
2 - Testifying in the US Senate about robo calls (Sen. Feinstein’s Robocall Privacy Act)
3 - Forcing states to enforce existing robo call laws (CA, MN, NJ, etc..)
4 - Getting politicians to take a do not robo call pledge (7 have)

As I testified at the US. Senate these robo calls are an epidemic and this election cycle “phone spam” and are invading the privacy of All American Voters.

Our members are taking a stand and saying enough is enough at the National Political Do Not Contact Registry at StopPoliticalCalls.org.

Here is a quote from a member recently:

"I'm a shift worker, working variable shifts. I depend on my sleep to be able to do my job safely and efficiently. I'm a locomotive engineer. Imagine the disaster were I to fall asleep, operating a freight train carrying hazardous materials in your neighborhood, due to fatigue from being awoken in my middle of the night on a continuous basis during election season. Please stop.."

7. Who says it's a politician or political organization funding these calls
as the demonstrations only aim to help the interests of the rich and wealthy.

And remember the Clinton administration. There were no shortage of asshole millionaires willing to fund smear campaigns against them.
