Repugs threaten state university funding to block porn movie
US university scraps porn after funding threat

by Alex Ogle Alex Ogle – Thu Apr 2, 7:04 pm ET
WASHINGTON (AFP) – An attempt to distract university students in Maryland from late-night drinking with a feature-length porn movie was blocked Thursday after state senators threatened to cut funds for the college.

The two-and-a-half-hour "Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge" -- the most expensive pornographic film ever made, at a cost of 10 million dollars -- would have been shown at a University of Maryland student union theater on Saturday.

Organizers at the College Park campus, 10 miles (16 kilometers) north of Washington, had championed educational aspects of the screening, with health group Planned Parenthood planning to hold a presentation on safe sex practices beforehand.

The event was also previously seen by university officials as an "alternative to late-night drinking and other dangerous activities," the Baltimore Sun reported before the cancellation.

Republican state senator Andy Harris, however, proposed an amendment to the state budget to deny millions of dollars in funding for any educational institutions that screen a porn movie.

I knew Andy Harris was a total scuzbucket, I didn't realize he was a bluenose as well. Ah, well, I guess that's just the charade the little reichwingers have to maintain to appeal to "the base". He' s probably got quite a collection at home -- or do Repugs only review porn in committee?

1. The Democratic Senate President Thomas Miller is in agreement. Not just a Republican threat.
From your linked article: "The Sun said that during a lengthy debate Thursday morning at the state legislature in Annapolis, Maryland, senate president Thomas Miller indicated he would back Harris' threat to cut millions of dollars in funding."

You posts title should state that the threat is bi-partisan - not just Republican. The members involved in the reviewing circle-jerk committee frequently share bi-partisan onanistic moments.

3. Strange -- Miller then killed the amendment.
Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller ruled the amendment out of order, and senators -- including several Republicans -- concurred, ending Harris' attempt.

Changed his mind? Burned by feedback? A ploy?

Sure there's a problem of alcoholism on campuses. But this movie might make college kids have sex. (which they were doing anyway)

My Gawds, cons just make me want to hit them with fish. Frozen so it hurts more.
And yes I realize that that includes some Dems as well.

Right now in fact a very stupid lady in Massachusetts (who is a Dem) wants to make it illegal for anyone over 60 to be photographed nude.

Stupid is stupid regardless of party.
