Man holding family hostage with shotgun on California freeway
AP-CA--Interstate Closed,0128

NORDEN, Calif. (AP) - The main northern artery linking
California and Nevada is shut down near the Sierra summit while
authorities negotiate with a man holding a woman and children
hostage.

KCRA-TV in Sacramento reported that it was the man's wife and
three children in the car. Stan Perez, chief of the California
Highway Patrol Valley Division, said one of the children is an
infant.

Perez says the man fled from Sacramento County sheriff's
deputies Wednesday afternoon after they tried to stop him for a
parole violation.

A spike strip stopped his sedan on Interstate 80 near Norden,
about 90 miles northeast of Sacramento.

Perez says the man appeared to be armed with a shotgun. Officers
were bringing a relative from Sacramento to help in negotiations.

12. At some point
it starts to look like copy-cat. I fear that we may need an economic recovery to stop seeing these sorts of stories as often as we do.

9. Oh, great.
Not again. At least no one's been killed.

I just hope there isn't a hot-head cop who tries to charge in and be a hero.

I just think this guy needs some reflection before giving himself up.
