Homosexual lobby lands activist on White House faith groupJim Brown - OneNewsNow - 4/8/2009 6:00:00 AM
Yet another conservative Christian activist is troubled that the nation's largest homosexual activist group will be influencing President Obama's faith-based and neighborhood partnerships office.
President Obama said Monday in Turkey that the U.S. is not a Christian, Jewish or Muslim nation, but rather "a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values." His view is represented by the makeup of his faith-based advisory council, which includes evangelicals, Muslims, Hindus, liberal Jews and Protestants, and even a homosexual activist.
Obama named Harry Knox of the homosexual activist group Human Rights Campaign to serve on the 25-member Council.
Matt Barber with Liberty Counsel says Knox, who calls his homosexuality a "gift from God," is rejecting the Apostle Paul's warning that those who engage in homosexual behavior "will not inherit the kingdom of God."
"By (Harry Knox) saying that his homosexual lifestyle is a 'gift from God,' I would say -- boy, well it's a gift that keeps on giving," Barber remarks.
The Christian activist explains his comment. "If you look at CDC (Centers for Disease Control) statistics, men who engage in sex with men, at an astronomical rate, are at risk for nearly every form of STD in much higher levels than other people -- certainly deadly disease with HIV/AIDS," he notes. "And so if that's a gift from God, I think I'd be wanting to do a little re-gifting there."
Yesterday, Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality cautioned against Knox's affiliation with the Human Rights Campaign -- an organization he described as "fundamentally bigoted against Christians."
Former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy, an outspoken evangelical Christian, turned down an invitation by the president to join the faith-based council, citing scheduling conflicts. Liberal groups such as People for the American Way and Americans United for Separation of State protested Dungy's potential appointment because of his opposition to same-sex "marriage."
