For years, they felt confident in ridiculing and blaming everything on the liberal media. They were "conservatives". They listened to Limbaugh, O'Reilly, and Hannity. They were supreme. They were of the Reagan clan. Liberalism was dead to them. They were arrogant in their rosy outlooks on the future. They voted in droves for George W Bush.
But now, it's hard to find a true "conservative". Yeah, we spent too much, they say. But it was more than that that contributed to their present decline. They were always good at preaching to the choir and that is what they did with the new medium, the Internet. The "liberals", on the other hand, were organizing and raising millions of dollars to elect their candidates. The Republicans were caught napping.
Seldom do you see them control the message the way they used to do. The left fought back. TV shows now have a leftist bent and it simply blows their mind. They are still dependent on talk radio but even Rush Limbaugh is subject to getting reamed by his own callers. The good ol' days are gone for them. But they cling to their only strategy. Tear down your opponent. Get his "negatives" up. That is how they used to win.
But they are living in the past. They have no solutions but to criticize the solutions of others. The liberal message has triumphed at this time because of reality. The truth eventually catches up to lies and passes it while it is congratulating itself for its cleverness.
