Survivor of war loses dog to random violence.
All it took was the gunshot fired outside his Walker County home to trigger training ingrained in former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, the lone survivor of a dramatic battle in Afghanistan in 2005.

Did these punks screw up or what? I can only say that Mr. Luttrell showed uncommon discipline in NOT shooting when he had them in his sights. I understand that the punks threatened Mr.Luttrell with death after being apprehended. They may want to rethink that.

Personally I don't know what I would have done in that situation. It would be awfully hard to not end the threat to my other dogs if one was shot. Apparently these turds had killed four or five other dogs in the area. It isn't to hard to imagine they would shoot at a homeowner who confronted them after killing a dog. My dogs are more to me than just an animal, they are family.

A picture of the deceased dog, it was given to him to help cope with his experiences in Afghanistan.

1. Too bad he didn't blow their brains out.
Then let's see how tough these macho tools are.

2. I would shed no tears for the loss of a puppy killer.
There are some very sick people in our society.

4. The sick bastards were targeting dogs to kill.
A couple of gun "enthusiasts" out for fun.

5. LUTTRELL's politics
My heart goes to the dog; my contempt to the killers. That said, LUTTRELL is the fulcrum of wingnut hatred of "Liberals" and "Liberal media" much in the same way as Joe the Plumber.

6. I never claimed he was perfect.
Yes, he is a right winger. I don't respect that aspect of him but I DO respect his service to our country. I think it is pathetic he should lose his dog to some punks who do nothing but waste air.
He isn't even in the same league as "Joe the plumber", this man & his seal team of four men faced down 150 Taliban fighters and Mr. Luttrell survived. He was awarded the Navy cross for his actions. His politics suck but he is a man I can respect. Joe the plumber is just a blowhard.

7. My focus is entirely on how he's used by other wingnuts & how he lends himself out to being used
We agree on these three points:

* I don't respect (right winger) aspect of him.
* it is pathetic he should lose his dog...
* the killers are punks at best, worse than that

We disagree on this one:
* isn't in the league as "Joe the Plumber"

His first book tour was a parade up and down all the wingnut outlets, and his quotes against "Liberals" were prime features. That is exactly what role Joe the Plumber plays. This is totally separate from LUTTRELL's military service, although there ARE some questions about his version of things.

Now, as a civilian he is perfectly free to participate in politics and blow his political opinions from the rooftops. But in his book he injected politics into what he claimed was his military decision-making. Similar to how many VFW, American Legion, and others USE their military awards and decorations in their endorsements of (usually wingnut) political candidates, the way those Medal of Honor holders stood on Shrub's POLITICAL stage during the 2000 Recount.

As for disagreeing with some of my fellow vets, I *will* do it and have done it. I have been SICKENED by the wingnut veterans' abuse of perfectly honorable veterans GORE, KERRY, and others. In '04 the abuse got so bad, from a webring of my shipmates from my ship in Vietnam, who it had taken me years to find, that I stopped my arguing with them and broke off all contact. It stopped hurting when I realized THEY didn't care about hurting other vets.

That's all I have to say. This is your thread and after noting there is another angle to it, so be it as you wish.
