Mass. mothers can breast feed in public
About TIME!

Boston: New mothers in Massachusetts who breast feed in public now have more legal protections.

Absolutely unbelievable that, until today, breast feeding mothers could have been forced to register as sex offenders. Unreal!!!!!

2. There's a lot of ignorant billshut around the "sex offender" registry
but it makes hyper-emotional knee-jerk liberals feel really, really good about themselves, like they've done something really, really important, so I imagine we're stuck with it for a good long time.

13. It would be helpful to assign degree
Like 1 for the kid who got caught peeing in an alley after the bar had closed to 5 for the guy who kidnaps, rapes and murders his victims.

As it is now, it's utterly useless to everybody.

14. Yep. Utterly useless and inspires fear in everyone without a brain.
It's an awful, idiotic system.

If this was a hundred years ago, it would be the "Women who wear pants registration", and two hundred years ago would have been the "Drinks alcohol registration" or "uses foul language registration".

And it would have been just as helpful and just as dipshitty as it is now.

3. It's really, really pathetic this even has to be legislated
Are we a bunch of puritanical, hypocritcal idiots in this country, or what?

It's really unbelievable, but I'm glad they did if it had to be done.

Geesh!

7. Grow up...
A woman's breasts are for the PURPOSE of feeding her babies...NOT for your sexual pleasure.

5. Astounding, but necessary
Texas has had a breastfeeding law on the books for some time, it says that a woman has a legal right to breastfeed any place where the woman herself is legally allowed to be.

Still, we have some friends who breastfeed and are still told they need to leave or cover up, etc. My wife breastfeeds, and I'm just waiting for someone to try it on her -- she is a hardcore lactivist.

6. I remember an incident on Boston Common
A mum was sitting on one of the benches opposite, nice day, blanket over her shoulder and baby in her lap, nursing very discreetly. Some old dude came over and walked around to get a VERY GOOD LOOK and started to lecture her.

I broke in, "Hey mister! What do you think they're FOR?"

He slunk away.

It was one of my proudest moments. I don't think I did much for her comfort, but I made him think about a few things.

I doubt he ever repeated his disgraceful performance, any way.

10. In Maine, women can go completely naked in public, legally.
That's because the way the law is written, a woman's legally-defined genitals do not show, and merely walking around in public would not be considered a "lewd display".

This has actually been tested in court, by the way.

12. My first reaction is "Who'd want to?"
It's not just the cold in winter, it's the mosquitoes and black flies in summer.
