Witch Hunt over Obama speaking at Notre Dame intensifies
Edited on Thu Apr-09-09 04:09 PM by CatholicEdHead
The far right Republican Catholics are raising their faux outrage to levels that are off the scale. They want 100% their way, the hardest of hard core "orthodox" way possible or else. :puke:

From the Horses' mouth:

Randall Terry States:

"Our primary goal is two-fold: First, to create such a nationwide political mud pit for President Obama to wade through over the next six weeks that he decides it is too big a political liability to speak at Notre Dame. Second, to insure that Notre Dame President Jenkins is dismissed, and replaced by someone who will defend Life, and obey Catholic teaching.

"Our secondary goal is two-fold: First, to create such a firestorm that no other Catholic School commits this treachery in the foreseeable future. Second, to so tar President Obama with the blood of the innocent that he cannot seduce the Catholic and Evangelical vote in 2012, as he did in 2008.

Yep, discussion is not allowed. :puke: Follow a narrow, harsh interpretation of the rules or else. :puke: I hope Terry marginalizes himself so much that he becomes totally irrelevant over this. The good news is the media is not running with this story (except for Fox News and and Fundie news sources) and you only find this nonsense through Google News searches.

2. I do hope that Notre Dame is just ignoring them.
If they wanted to, they could I'm sure get their supporters on the other side of this non-issue to make noise/write letters in great numbers.

6. This really isn't that scary as the link
is from PR Newswire, a service Terry had to PAY FOR.

Most credible papers (and I would hope TV stations) take faxes from these folks and immediately file them in the dust bin.

I'm curious how much the local and campus newspaper are covering this and how many students actually don't want this speech to happen.

I bet it is a tiny minority.

21. They're not all lunatics
"In response to an interview today on FoxNews about the weekend protest, Ms. Kathleen Donahue, Notre Dame junior and spokesperson for Notre Dame Response, a group organizing protests on campus was asked why an invitation to President Obama is any different than an invitation to President Bush, who supports the death penalty....."

http://media.www.ndsmcobserver.com/media/storage/paper660/news/2009/04/08/Viewpoint/Partisan.Hand-3701481.shtml

"Seeing the well-publicized story of hundreds of Notre Dame students demanding that President Obama not be allowed the honor to speak at this year's Commencement address has served as yet another reminder why I have completely severed ties with the institution...."

http://media.www.ndsmcobserver.com/media/storage/paper660/news/2009/04/08/Viewpoint/Be.Open.To.The.Outside.World-3701490.shtml

"In my role as the current president of the Notre Dame Alumni Association, many concerned alumni have called and written me about the upcoming visit of President Obama to Notre Dame as Commencement speaker. While I don't speak for the Alumni Association or its Board of Directors, I do have a unique window on this controversy that has given me cause for reflection. Those who object to the visit cite the grave differences between Mr. Obama and Notre Dame regarding abortion rights because our Catholic faith unequivocally opposes abortion. However, we must also be mindful of Catholic teaching in other areas pertaining to human dignity in which we have a good deal in common with the president..."

Edited on Thu Apr-09-09 04:17 PM by FightingIrish
Hypocrites like newly minted Catholic, Newt Gingrich, think their Catholicism allows them to speak for the University of Notre Dame. It doesn't. Father Jenkins speaks for the university and he extended the invitation. All the sanctimonious assholes are doing is calling attention to their unwillingness to accept that our nation is neither governed nor bound by their personal faith.

help me out here...

<snip>

Ha Ha! Doug Feith Loses Professor Job At GeorgetownFormer Defense Department torture-lover and the fucking stupidest person on the face of the earth, Douglas Feith, has lost his pwecious teaching position at the prestigious Catholic university, Georgetown. What a fucking loser! Everyone point at the pathetic fucking loser and laugh, ha ha, just like that! The best part of the story is this college reporter’s opening sentence: “Douglas Feith (LAW ‘78) may not have devised an exit strategy for the U.S. occupation of Iraq, but according to the former Bush administration official, a group of Georgetown professors apparently had no trouble coming up with an exit strategy for him.” Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, that Feith — what a Dingleberry McDingus!

Doesn't matter. For him to have been there at all is obscene.

26. There are only about 10 small Catholic colleges who fit this nationwide
Those are the ones the Catholic Newman Society plugs ad nauseum. Their approach is that Colleges and Universities are "Catechism Centers" (term used by St Paul Archbishop to K12 Catholic schools recently). They feel the really only thing to know is the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC), the list of rules. Nothing else really matters outside the rigidity of the book. So all you go through life knowing is endless rules you can then regurgitate ad nasaum and forget about everything else in the real world.

18. Somebody needs to remind people who really care about Notre Dame
that this crap is not good for football recruiting. Notre Dame's big catch this year was Manti Teo from Obama's Punahou School in Hawaii. Maybe he should threaten to walk if they don't welcome the President as they should.

20. They will need heavy security at this one. They need to use those nice wire-tapping
capabilities to get some dirt on Terry. He sounds like a gun toting nut bag. As someone who was raised Catholic and attended private school from first grade through twelfth, I have never been around this kind of nut job behavior. Most Catholics I knew were pretty cool or at least rational.

24. Is this nut bag enough?
Randall Terry once arranged to have a dead fetus sent to Bill Clinton at the 1992 Democratic National Convention.

This long-time pro-life activist is no stranger to controversy. His life - as an evangelical Christian, later a converted Catholic, once a Republican political candidate and foremost a warrior in the fight against abortion - has been filled with similar appalling actions.

Terry likes to boast that he's been arrested 40 times, spent a year of his life in jail and had cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. He even states that he has created "the largest civil disobedience movement in America."

25. He is one of those zealous Fundie converts
the ones who schism to the Catholic Church as their own church was not conservative enough. , and in normal form they want then kick out anyone else in their new denomination who do not agree with them. Terry has a few nutty Bishops but not much else.

Notice how the Vatican is still tight lipped over this? In Europe, while abortion is an issue, it is only one issue, not THE issue everything is based upon here.

27. I am a product of 13 years of catholic education. These people
don't represent anything positive about my former religion, and don't represent anything I wish to recall about my years as a catholic.
I hate the authoritarian centralist fascist part of the church, and that is exactly why I no longer believe in any of their teachings. They are lying hypocrits.
