Whaaa! Two GOP Reps: Dems Were Out Of Line With Cuba Trip
GOP lawmakers blast Cuba visit by Black Caucus members

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A pair of Republican congressmen ripped Congressional Black Caucus members for ignoring Cuba's "myriad gross human rights abuses" Thursday, saying this week's caucus trip to the island nation ignored the plight of political prisoners under the Castro regime.

They also urged the Obama administration to refrain from easing trade embargo or travel restrictions until the Cuban government releases all "prisoners of conscience," shows greater respect for freedom of religion and speech, and holds "free and fair" elections.

The call from Reps. Chris Smith, R-New Jersey, and Frank Wolf, R-Virginia, came three days after the administration signaled that new rules on family travel and remittances to Cuba may be announced before President Obama goes to the Summit of the Americas on April 17.

It also followed statements from several Black Caucus members Tuesday arguing for consideration of an end to the trade embargo and other diplomatic restrictions placed on Cuba for five decades. Video Watch CNN's Ed Hornick discuss the story »

"Yes, we have history -- we have good history and not-so-good history," said Rep. Laura Richardson, D-California. "But the point is it's history, and we need to move forward."

Three members of the caucus were visiting the Latin American School of Medicine, where students from nations including the United States study, when they received an invitation to Fidel Castro's home for a meeting.

2. I assume they just loved BushCo's "myriad of gross human rights abuses"?
Today's Republican Party is much worse than Castro.

3. Yeah, they were "out of line." GOPers believe whenever you visit a foreign country...
...you need to drop bombs on it.

This is rich!--...ignored the plight of political prisoners under the Castro regime. Yeah, and we'll just "ignore the plight of tortured prisoners under the Bush regime!"

Don't these Repubs ever listen to what they're saying?

5. Cuba
It seems to me that Repubs only know how to hate. They have a philosophy of American Exceptionalism and hate any person or country that doesn't genuflect at that altar. The three big Repub congresspeople from Florida represent a bunch of emigrees who fled Cuba when they lost the wealth they accumulated off the back of the Cuban poor and have wanted revenge ever since. They can decry human rights abuses in Cuba but what about human rights in China? Do we snub them? No, the human rights thing is an excuse. The political prisoners in Cuba are locked up for resisting the regime. Don't we do the same thing to what we call traitors to the US?
