Rep. Bachus: 17 House members are socialists
@ 4:44 pm by Walter Alarkon

Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.) puts the number of socialists in the House at 17.

"Some of the men and women I work with in Congress are socialists," Bachus told local government leaders on Thursday, according to the Birmingham News.

Bachus gave the specific number of House socialists when pressed later by a reporter.

He made the comments during a breakfast in Birmingham in which he praised President Obama. Bachus said that Obama is a better listener than President Bush, but that Obama was being steered to the left by Congress.

"He tries to get ideas from people," Bachus said. He added that he has "some hope" for the new president.

Bachus, the top Republican on the House Financial Services Committee, actually voted for last fall's bank bailout that other Republicans had opposed and criticized as socialism. Bachus, however, has been critical of the way the bailout has been conducted and has called on the Treasury Department to be more transparent in how they make decisions.

I hardly believe that there are 17 Socialists...but I have it on very good authority that there are quite a few Nazis who "pretend" to be republicans.

11. Oh, he is way behind. Conservatives know that all in the Progressive Caucus are socialist commies.
Edited on Thu Apr-09-09 05:18 PM by MissMarple
"The Democrats have put socialists in charge of their members on the Ways and Means Committee, the Banking and Small Business Committees, The Science Committee, the Veterans Committee, the Resources Committee and the Judiciary Committee. In fact, there are five members of the Progressive Caucus on the committee currently holding hearings on the Inquiry of Impeachment for Bill Clinton.

There is nothing progressive about the Progressive Caucus. The Democratic Socialists of America is an affiliate of Socialist International, whose roots go all the way back to 1864. Don't be fooled by the use of the word "democratic." The group explains, "At the root of our socialism is a profound commitment to democracy, as means and end." The end this group has in mind is economic redistribution in order to achieve social and environmental justice.

Democracy and socialism cannot be combined. It's like trying to mix oil and water. Socialists or Communists believe that man can be perfected. God is unnecessary. In the socialist or Communist ideology, economic exploitation and the free enterprise system is the root of all evil. Therefore, an all powerful government, which represents the people, must be established until man no longer is capable of evil and utopia is reached.

A democracy is based on the idea that we are created equal, but imperfect. Perfection is the business of God. Therefore, this country has laws and checks and balances to protect us from each other and the government.

When you look at the sheer numbers of powerful members of the Democratic party who are committed to this socialist ideology, you can begin to understand why there is so much partisanship in Congress and so little regard for our Constitution."

You should read what she has to say about Henry Waxman.

12. Man sometimes I really hate this state.
Ok I do alot, but I mean come on, why is it when republican are in control people are "patriotic" and to dissagree with the President is to hate Amerikka. WHy. Every time a puke is elected they fuck this country up beyond all idea and they reverse any intelligence gained, then we elect a democrat to fix it but instead of actually allowing him the same freedoms and support pukes get, they try to mire their terms in pointless bickering, fearmongering and outright lying. Why? I personally hate FOX News and all the people associated with it, it is a cruel deceitful organization, made up on lies and playing to the fears of under educated people. THis has to stop or something bad will happen in this country, but it wont come from outside. But within, ie Oklahoma City, Waco all the shootings recently and who knows what else. How can a news organization (or anyone for that matter) actually be able to incite the formations of militias, to stand against the government. How is that not a threat on Obama.

22. Why?
He's being an idiot, yes, but he's named no names, and I'm not sure why saying so-and-so is a socialist is bad enough to require an apology in the first place.

Let him make an idiot of himself; all he's doing is discrediting his buddies/

20. The obvious rebuttal
When told that Rep. Spencer Bachus believes there are seventeen Socialists in the House of Representatives, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), a declared Socialist, said, "Mr. Bachus, you say 'socialist' like it's a bad thing."

Incidentally, when Rep. Bachus holds cocktail parties at his home, are they Bachanalia?

27. You know what "socialist" means.
To someone who uses the term Socialist, the political center is Ronald Reagan.

The left is represented by George W. Bush. Yes, I know he was actually farther to the right than Reagan, but these morans think Bush is a liberal because, gee whiz, he never really did ban abortion or eliminate the public schools, did he? Anyway, if you're more liberal than Shrub, you're a socialist.

He raised taxes more than any peacetime president in US history. And the Earned Income Tax Credit was greatly expanded during Reagan's term.

In many other countries, loads of politicians ARE socialists; and it hasn't led to spontaneous combustion.

Indeed, there are even countries where politicians call themselves socialists when they're not....
