License bureau says "no" to woman's vanity plate: ILVTOFU
DENVER - Kelly Coffman-Lee wanted to tell the world about her love of tofu by picking the letters for her car's license plate.

But her tofu fondness ran into a snafu at the Division of Motor Vehicles, which blocked her plan because they thought the combination of letters could be interpreted as profane. Her suggestion for the plate on her Suzuki: "ILVTOFU."

Department of Revenue spokesman Mark Couch said the letters could be misinterpreted.

Coffman-Lee, 38, said tofu is a staple of her family's diet because they are vegan and that the DMV misinterpreted her message. Uh huh.

10. As much as I wish I were, I'm not presently vegetarian... but I still eat tofu often.
I love the stuff when it's prepared properly.

I read the OP and saw "I love tofu", and had to think about it for a while before I understood the "other" way to interpret it.

Probably if I didn't enjoy tofu I would have seen the nasty interpretation first.

23. There's a floor finnisher
in Tally that had the plate A55 MLD. I joked with the stair guy that if it had been WLD, would have described how Chris sanded floors perfectly.

8. I once tried to get my wife to get TANDA
Her name starts with an A and mine with a T.

She smacked me. I doubt it would have passed the license bureau either.

11. I pointed out earlier today that they did her a big favor
because you know god's gift to the female sex would read it as "I LOVE TO FUck" and follow her home, probably wanking all the way, thinking she was a sure thing. That can get difficult.

Come on, we all know jerks like that.

22. If she really is all about loving the tofu...
I'd say the motor vehicle authorities probably did her a favor by rejecting this plate.

18. Lots of plates skip by the DMV, some of them really hilarious.
There's this famous VA plate:

And this other VA plate...

oops, VA DMV is at it again...

So from this, if you want a risque plate, head over to the VA DMV where they'll approve almost anything.

But in NC we got cool plates too...

And this from the state that issued a load of WTF-XXXX regular plates... (they issued a withdraw notice but they're still out there).

I've seen a "4 OBAMA" NC plate locally (but never took a pic).

Mark.

21. Reminds Me Of The Yiddish Plates...
In the late 80s when they began making Vanity plates available, there were some creative souls that soon found the letter and number combinations that got the state's attention. One buddy I know attempted to get "4Q2" on his plates...and that was denied. However, those checking the requests never got language training...soon I was seeing cars with plates like "Big Putz", "Schmuck 1" and so on...as well as chosen words in other languages. The state finally got wise but I still see those who attempt to see what combinations they can get away with. In my book, it pays to be creative.
