Strange confluence
Tonight (Thu) is Passover, and a Full moon.
Friday is Good Friday, the supposed HOLY day of Christendom.

I'm not sure why I posted this.

It just seems kinda weird, in a Jungian way.

PS: Jesus will be up and running Sunday.

1. Do you know the algorithm for determining the date for Easter?
It's the first Sunday following the first Friday following the first full moon following the vernal equinox.

Got that?

(It's true.)

2. There's probably something similar for Passover, eh?

4. Well, Passover is based on the Jewish calendar ... and that's a lunar calendar.
So, while Passover is always the same day of the Jewish month, the relationship between the Jewish calendar and the Gregorian calendar varies.

5. Yes
I often wondered how the feast of Passover was calculated.

My understanding is that it was always before Good Friday.

They cut it close this year.

And I have heard today (Thu) that the fact of the full moon and Passover fall on the dame day is an important event? Like every 10 years or so?
Is that true?

I love this stuff.

6. But the relationships with the Full Moon . . .
Passover begins on the 15th day of the month of Nisan, which corresponds to the full moon of Nisan, the first month of the Hebrew calendar, in accordance with the Hebrew Bible.<2> Passover is a spring festival, so the 15th of Nisan begins on the night of a full moon after the vernal equinox. To ensure that Passover did not start before spring, the tradition in ancient Israel held that the 1st of Nisan would not start until the barley is ripe, being the test for the onset of spring.<7[br />

8. Thanks
That explains why Easter is always after Passover.
Doesn't it?

As I said, I love this stuff.

Modern religion has always clouded the natural beliefs of the ancients for me.

3. I knew that
a long time ago, like when I was 10 and asked me Mom why Easter seemed to move around a lot.

It's not an algorithm - well maybe it is.

Easter Sunday is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox (March 20-21).

That full moon is tonight. (Passover - tin foil thingy here)

The FUN thing is that they have to calculate Mardi Gras, Lent, Ash Wednesday back 40 days (and nights) back from that date so we can all quit drinking or chocolate.

Is that time-travel?

Happy Passover
