Lest people forget: the REAL powers behind the Teabagging parties

What we discovered is that Santelli’s “rant” was not at all spontaneous as his alleged fans claim, but rather it was a carefully-planned trigger for the anti-Obama campaign. In PR terms, his February 19th call for a “Chicago Tea Party” was the launch event of a carefully organized and sophisticated PR campaign, one in which Santelli served as a frontman, using the CNBC airwaves for publicity, for the some of the craziest and sleaziest rightwing oligarch clans this country has ever produced. Namely, the Koch family, the multibilllionaire owners of the largest private corporation in America, and funders of scores of rightwing thinktanks and advocacy groups, from the Cato Institute and Reason Magazine to FreedomWorks. The scion of the Koch family, Fred Koch, was a co-founder of the notorious extremist-rightwing John Birch Society.”

1. There we go.
Hartmann was talking about this. It's a year and a half plan, an attempt of the repukes to gain in Congress.

3. What's funny about this,
is Glen Wreck was talking a couple of days ago about how the protests we've seen in the past few years are not spontaneous American actions, but organized by Chavez/Chinese/Russians/Iranians. He is so dense, he must have seen this teabag planning, and deduced that no grassroots organizing could ever organize a protest. And, in his paranoia, he thinks foreign actors have infiltrated to stake claims on parts of this failing country.

He's insane, and an idiot.

4. Astroturf
In other words, this "tea bagging" campaign is just so much astroturf. The GOP, especially the extreme right-wing thereof is particularly fond of this approach.

5. yep yep yep I just wish
that Rachel Maddow and Keith O would comment on this astroturf as BEING astroturf. Its a great story waiting to be exposed to MSM, if someone would pick it up and run with it.

6. This Is A Massive Astroturf Operation...
Mari...thank you for reminding others here about the Koch connection to Santelli (and that Playboy article that was pulled from their site) as well as others behind this "populist" bullshit.

I think this train has moved beyond since...as other operatives have hopped aboard...as we've seen this "outrage" shift from Greed Central (CNBC) over to Faux. It's opened a conduit for many of the "usual suspects"...the Morton Blackwell/Roger Stone/Floyd Brown accolytes to amp up their operations and enrich themselves at the same time. Consider this the modern day attempt at an "Arkansas Project"...an attempt to manufacture a "populist" uproar against President Obama and the Democratic party...all done with smoke and mirrors and geared directly at the beltway corporate media.

9. Thanks For Posting The LInk...Others Need To Read This
This was a two or three day story...IRC, Playboy pulled the article over the weekend and with all the other financial messes going on, this one fell through the cracks. It also fell on the heels of Santelli cancelling on Stewart that led to JS's classic takedown of the network. Santelli has been quiet ever since.

Being from Chicago, I find the Milt Rosenberg connection interesting. A longtime right wing talk show host, who I used to listen to and respect...his show was used last year to try to slime President Obama and there are connections between this show and Koch's operations.

Playboy has remained silent about the pulling of this article...but methinks a "strongly worded letter" from a lawyer must have gotten some attention.

Cheers...

Don't know how long the cache stays around - I'm going to save a copy.

Edited to add: Oh, I see that's what is at your link. Surprised Playboy hasn't made them pull it.

13. More Like The GOOP Welfare System...
The Kochs, Scaiffes, De Voses and other rushpublican high rollers pour millions into these places that are nothing more than shadow governments and "holding pens" for their agendas. During the booosh regime, it was a direct line into a nice paying federal gig...and now that they're out of power, this is where they go to hide and get a paycheck until the party's fate turn. It's a well funded, highly organized operation that is now feeding Faux noise and hate radio.

15. Hillary Clinton Tried Once...Remember, Vast Right Wing Conspiracy?
Back in the Gannon/Gunkert mess, a bunch of us found connections with him, Talon News, Morton Blackwell, Bob Novak and all over the place. We forwarded our findings to media outlets and "journalists"...and not a peep...even from the more Progressive types. At YKOS, I chatted with a well-known Progressive blogger about this and she confided that the beltway media is so "incestuous" that these connects get too close to home. The cockroaches, sadly, are in our house as well as in theirs. All we can do is hope to shine lights.
