It is a very unexpected but pleasant surprise. They are really excited about it. The moved the graduation from the basketball arena (iirc) to the football stadium. It's a big deal! There will be like 50,000 people there.

The president of the university looks like a complete moron and it's a public relations nightmare for the school that will never go away.

I'm sure it will cost them in donations, enrollment and prestige. It just highlights how truly stupid conservatives are and how inept they are at hiding it.

Just this afternoon, I saw an episode of "Home Improvement", where Tim's alma mater was giving him an honorary PhD. His wife was unhappy because they were going to give her buffoon husband one, while she was having to work for her butt off for years to get a "real" one. As the story line went, the school was giving Tim the degree--over a famous poet--because they thought he'd do a better job with fund-raising. That's kind of how I see all "honorary" degree--just symbolism with some motive behind it, that in the long run, really doesn't mean much of anything in the grand scheme of things. The President pretty much has a REAL PhD in his Juris Doctorate. I suspect that's good enough for him.

BTW, ASU refused to give Reagan one, too. He responded by sending someone else in his place. I don't think President Obama will do that. Too many students will be disappointed.
