President's Pizza Preference Poo Pooed.....
Information from: Chicago Tribune, http://www.chicagotribune.com

President is having a party at the White House tonight (140 ppl.) and ordered pizza from St. Louis. He tasted it during the campaign and evidently loved it. So, okay, now Chicago deep pan guys are miffed. I don't think they're really serious but geez....

that will sit in your gut for hours.

I've lived in Chicago for more than 15 years and will never eat it again. there is far better pizza in Chicago than Giordano's.

I went back in 2007 and had Giordano's. I'm sure there are better ones. But that would involve staying in Chicago for a long period of time to find out.

72. Oh yeah baby. It's got to be Giordanos.
I can't believe with all the Chicago Style pizzerias, that Obama's searching out St. Louis pizza. The Medici - the restaurant in Hyde Park in Chicago that the Obamas frequented before he got "famous" - is all about pizza as well. Really excellent pizza.

Ah well. Maybe he's just trying to be egalitarian - trying to throw some biz St. Louis' way....

22. Not all Chicago Deep Pan has thick crusts...
It all depend on who makes it. BTW, I am a Chicago native. I was in high school when I had my first deep dish. We grew up eating thin crust, and despite what others say, there's lots of great thin-crust pizza in Chicago.

BTW, what the article fails to mention is that this guy from St. Louis is coming to town anyway to visit his girlfriend. The Obamas are merely taking advantage of his offer to stop by to make dinner. I read that somewhere else earlier today...

56. Yup, me too.
I think that Chicago style stuff is another thing altogether, actually. And I understand why people love it. But it's not pizza.

I want a nice, thin crust - it ought to crack when you pick it up and fold it over slightly. Lots of good cheese, and not too much sauce. Basically, the sort of stuff you could pick up at most any strip mall when I was growing up in NJ, but which seems hard to find everywhere but NY and NJ!

We have the world's greatest pizza in New Haven, Sally's and Pepe's and Modern's, when they were law students at Yale! That was the best!

Now we have a midwestern president and oh, no! No more east coast pizza!

thank god he's coming to Martha's Vineyard (part of Massachusetts) in August! It will help.

They opened a 2nd store in Fairfield on the Fairfield/Bridgeport border... I think it's by that Mercedes-Benz dealership in Fairfield. They made it almost exactly like the original one... pressed-tin ceiling and all. Giant brick oven.

little Polish area there.

When I get a chance I go to Orange Street. You might remember Romeo & Joe's. It's now Romeo and Cesare's where I can find panna da cucina in little packages. Also Nica's Market which has some wonderful pizza as well, just plain old Pizza Margherita but great.

Nice old church. I usually skipped out and ate pizza though, being the 16 year old atheist already.

Then there was Humphry's for wings, loved that place. The green for the jazz fests in summer. We would stop at the Owl shop for a good cigar first and bring a picnic. Drink 1/2 yard after. The Grotto for concerts. Claire's for cakes.

6. If you ever go to Jersey/Monmouth County, look for a Federici's in
the area. I go to the one right in the heart of Freehold, the best ever. My grown sons get together during the summer, leave the shore and travel 30 minutes to go to Freehold, order their danged pizza (sausage and peppers) and then call me in Florida from their table to tell me what they just ordered. Ask me if I can smell it. Greatest pizza I ever tasted.

I love almost all pizza, but almost never get to eat it.

But so many people have told me that Pappa Johns is great. Unfortunately, having moved away from Los Angeles and into the boondocks, there's no PJ near here. In fact, we have only Pizza Hut and Domino's.

24. Papa John's is hardly different than Pizza Hut ....
Domino's occupies an especially low place in the pizza universe: I cannot dip that low ....

In my experience; IF the pizza place has any of these things:

1) Is an independently owned Italian restaurant

2) Is painted the colors of the Italian flag

3) Has a picture of the pope on the wall

4) Has a picture of the only Roman Catholic President JFK on the wall ...

THEN you are bound to enjoy delicious fresh pizza ....

I could have added Graziano's in Beaverton OR and NY NY Pizza in Portland OR as yet more great pizza restaurants .... Apizza Scholls is considered among the best in Oregon, but it's so hard to get a seat, I have yet to experience them ....

If I am hungry, I will eat nearly any pizza .... but if we are looking for GOOD pizza, that is a different question ...

27. It's rare that I encounter a pizza that I dislike outright
and St. Louis-style pizza is no exception. The 'Provel' cheese blend (provolone, Swiss & white cheddar) gives the pizza a tangy, 'sour-ish' edge, but it's countered by the sweet sauce.

It may not be to everyone's liking, but I refuse to become a 'pizza snob,' and I'll pretty much eat whatever's set in front of me.

34. this is my favorite pizza:
American Flatbread restaurants feature local, regional, and organic ingredients raised and harvested by farmers we personally know. Like our very first Flatbread restuarant at Lareau Farm, American Flatbread restaurants work to establish a sustainable, community-based, farm-to-plate network.

Our emphasis is on quality and integrity. By focusing on a simple menu, we have the ability to perfect the artisanal process to create the best pizza imaginable. We have created an experience that has a broad appeal to families, traditional pizza lovers, and critical epicureans at an affordable price.

Our menu features an array of signature flatbreads, our popular evolution salad which uses seasonal greens, and an array of homemade desserts. The weekly specials created by the Chef de Cuisine, showcase each season’s harvest. Each American Flatbread Restaurant offers flatbread unique to its region, accentuating the specialties or “terrior” of local farmers, cheesemakers, and other food producers. We strive to use as much food from the local region as we can because we believe it tastes better, is better for us, supports local community, and minimizes environmental impacts.

43. I am NY born and moved to Chicago at 14. First job was for "Pizza King of Chicago".
So let me answer the controversial question.

NY style is best, but in a sense it is not a comparison because Deep Dish "Pizza" isn't really pizza.

Still, Chicago pizza is rather, well, gross when considering how much cheese and dough is actually inside there. It is why all the customers there are so heavy. It is a very unhealthy proportion of carbos and cheese.

Having said that, a deep dish Spinach can be a great thing.

But NY Pizza, yum, yum, yummy! Nothing like a slice of a good "pie"!

64. How much does this cost?
Is there no pizza in Washington?

I hate it when they do stuff like this. I hope the taxpayers aren't paying for it.

70. If kinds of pizza is the biggest complaint someone has, then everything
else must be smooth sailing.

Or perhaps I'm underestimating the grievous insult the president has just paid to Chicago-area pizza makers.

Should a Pizza Czar by appointed to mitigate the hurt feelings?

The ravilolis are to die for.. butt he pizza.. oh god. They have their own cheese in MO i have seen nowhere else called Provel. It looks like white Velveeta, tastes the same.

I think we should start the impeachment procedures asap!
