2. Has Obama had anywhere near enough time in office to keep most of his campaign promises?
He's barely got his Cabinet confirmed, no?

Looks like GD is a little hot bed of pissing and moaning anti-Obamaism and if anyone says something other than pissing and moaning then they're dubbed "Authoritarian"..freakin' bullshit.

5. pissing and moaning
I guess that's what was going on while the Bush administration was in control, and yet it was accepted!

But you can't question the Obama administration, because then you're "pissing and moaning".

8. Is there a list of Obama campaign promises I can review?
Do we count promises which can not be kept in the short time he has been in office?

11. No.
The "thus far" is obviously implied. This isn't a poll about what he will do, it's a poll about what he has done.

14. The "thus far" was not obviously implied, hence my question.
On DU, if I add words to someones post, I risk creating a straw man. I see this happen on DU from time to time.

What about my first question, is there a list of Obama's promises which I can review?

The question was not how many campaign promises will Obama keep?

As for campaign promises Change.gov is still up.

16. The absence of the word "will" doesn't imply "thus far".
Edited on Sat Apr-11-09 04:45 PM by ZombieHorde
One would just count unkept promises due to time restraint as unkept promises. ("Unkept is not recognized by the spell check, but is recognized by http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/unkept">dictionary.com)

Thanks for the list. I see 24 different categories (under "Agenda"), each with many plans. It will take me a while to count them up and do the research. Maybe if we all take one plan, we could figure it out very quickly.

12. Better to ask how many campaign promises that he has broken..

So far, that's about two or three.

1. He promised a waiting period on every bill before signature, and he hasn't done that. To be fair, some of the bills that he signed were "do overs" (like SCHIP) that the public was well aware of, others, like the stimulus bill were not.

2. He promised to put all military spending, even for the war in Iraq, "on budget" (allocated via regular spending bills). However, just now he asked for an emergency funding bill for the war, claiming that there wasn't time to roll the war expenditure into the standard budget, but that "this would be the last one"... OK, I guess we'll see. 1/2 off for partial non-compliance.

3. The vetting process for nominees wasn't supposed to allow the "revolving door" between lobbyists and administration, however, in a few instances, this "rule" has been broken.

As for the rest of his promises, he has either kept them or they haven't been acted on. The one in particular that I think he will break is the one on torture investigations... he said that if laws were broken, investigations would be allowed under his Dept. of Justice, and so far, though it is obvious to everyone that laws were broken, no investigations have been started.
