4. Not GHWB
Fundie Christians were using that term as a warning against the anti-christ long before he ever said it - which was REALLY funny because when he said it they all sort of got quiet and then just kind of pretended he hadn't said it. lol

3. Because they are suggesting that he is the anti-christ:
I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with dispensationalist theology that most evangelical fundamentalists subscribe to, so let me state a few things:

Supposedly the anti-Christ will come to power kind of like a rock star, and he will ultimately bring the world together under one world government promising to solve all our ills - and people will swarm to him because of his charisma. And he will really do a lot of these things....

....but eventually he will set himself up as god, and demand the people worship him instead of god. Those who worship will be branded with the mark (of loyalty the mark "of the beast") and only those with such a mark will be able to participate in society...

etc. etc.

So this is the start of the right suggesting that Obama is the anti-Christ.

Now the main problem with this for some of the really studious theologians of dispensationalist theology is that supposedly in the "end times" the power and might of the united states is supposed to fade, and the US really doesn't play a major role in the end of things. This leads some to conclude that the anti-Christ would not emerge from the US.

I know all this due to my unfortunate upbringing, but at least now I can share the info in a "know your enemy" sort of way.

5. What truly amazes me:
All throughout the 90's, in the Internets newsgroups where the truly crazy dwell, like alt.conspiracy, this was the kind of rhetoric that was regularly derided by most of the participants. Hooted right off the board for the insanity it was.

Now, it has been mainstreamed into our nightly news, in the never-ending search for ratings.

:wtf:

6. I tought the idea of an international body to regulate the global financial industry,
which came up during President Obama's European trip (even though the idea seemed to originate more from European than Obama, might bring the one-world government, black helicopter resistance brigade out in full force. The idea of a foreigner telling an American banker what he can and cannot do must be galling to those folks.
