Why did Stephanopolis have Gingrich on today?
Edited on Sun Apr-12-09 10:35 AM by Cyrano
Yeah, I know, his corporate masters told him to give Gingrich a seat at the the Sunday morning table. Why?

Gingrich is old news. He’ll never again hold elected office. His moral authority is somewhere below zero. His political philosophy is on a par with Attila the Hun. And the crap that pours out of his mouth has the odor of a sewer.

He, of course, attacked the Obama administration and the Dems every time he got to speak. He even attacked the new White House dog as a silly topic to discuss (although it was only discussed for a moment).

Paul Krugman was seated right next to him. Placing Krugman alongside Gingrich is something of a travesty. Agree with him or not, Krugman is a professor, a Nobel Prize recipient and a respectable voice. Gingrich is a charlatan peddling hot air, propaganda and outright lies.

Isn’t ABC content with having George Will as a propagandist on this show without adding Gingrich?

(On edit: The Huffington Post printed an article this week by Gingrich's sister. She's gay and she took him to task for being such an incredible asshole.)

1. Because, inside the beltway, amongst The Villagers...
Newt is "mainstream" while Krugman is an "outsider" of dubious credibility. I know it is insane, but facts is facts.

4. I sometimes suspect that Will demands he get some panel makeup control.
Like if Krugman or Kristina Vanden Heuval or anyone from the left who has the smarts and Q ratings to challenge him is on, he gets a Newt-type RW hack to 'balance' things.

5. he's ALWAYS on these types of panels
For Fox, This Week, MTP. WHY? It's basically just giving him a forum to spout his 2012 talking points. I'd rather them just have a generic Republican columnist than pulling this whole charade with Newt the pundit, when he has made it clear that he wants to run in 2012. In other news, I love that Krugman disputed Newt's pirate craziness. The other day Wolf Blitzer asked some type of expert (I know, really specific huh? Sorry) on CNN what would happen in the pirate situation if we were doing what Newt wanted, and he was like "Oh, the captain would die."

7. There is a perceived power vacuum at the Republic party
and Newt seems to be trying to make himself available as possible to further his own agenda while the rest of the party apparatchiks are flopping around.

Newt is a known quantity with the corporate media, and he delivers what they want to hear, right on cue, like a trained dog.

Arf. Good boy, Newtie. Roll over. Now speak! Good doggie, here's a treat. We'll call you next week.

8. Because Gingrich is trying to update his word lists for the 2010 campaigns
Here's a link to his "Language: A Key Mechanism of Control" GOPAC memo

http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article4443.htm

Gingrich has put himself out there to "save" the Republican party, I think. Testing ways to update the GOP talking points and obfuscate their discredited policies for today's market.

11. Gingrich is making a new push forward with his nutty Renewing American Leadership group
I've gotten two calls from them asking to send me their propaganda in the past month! He's making a push in the Bible Belt first no doubt looking for easy funding from the easily manipulated religious extremist here.

It would appear he still has enough clout to get his mug on several television programs to spew is tripe as well. Politics, no matter how long I follow them, will never cease to amaze me.

17. That's a real possibility
I wish I could believe that this creature could never be president.

However, we're living in a country that elected St. Ronnie twice, and didn't take to the streets with pitchforks when Bush stole it -- twice. So I guess that anything's possible.

Perhaps Gingrich really could get to sit in that seat behind the desk in the Oval Office. And were this to happen, there would be no place to run or hide. No place on this planet would be safe from this man who is more intelligent than Bush -- and far, far more dangerous.

19. Have no doubt.....
Newt will be ths chosen one. Jindal went down in flames (not withstanding that he looks and acts like a total dork), and Gingrich is all they have.

I believe his little conversion to Catholicism was the first salvo. He's trying to repair damage with the religious reich.

13. Mutual Masturbation Society Rules
Edited on Sun Apr-12-09 10:58 AM by Warren Stupidity
This is all they ever do. Intelligent voices of dissent are marginalized. The Kleptocracy promotes its view above all others simply for the sake of self preservation. The Obama administration is being kept on a short leash. From day one the pressure to conform to the status quo, to change nothing substantial, has been keeping the administration inside the box. It does not help much that Obama surrounded himself with insiders and kleptocracy friendly advisors, but then again Obama staked out a centrist position on most issues while running on a theme of Change You Can Believe In. The real question was the one raised by the right, that is, that Obama is somehow a crypto-progressive despite his stated centrist positions. Those of us on the left can only hope that this is, as the right fears, only maneuvering by the administration as they position themselves to implement real progressive change. I'm afraid that both the left and the right are going to be disappointed by this administration.

What was your question again?

Oh yes, gingrich - well of course what the kleptocracy wants is another boxed in Clinton adminstration forced to do nothing much except defend itself from a constant barrage of attacks and investigations. They dream of a do-over of '94. I think Obama's team is smarter than that and I really doubt that Obama has a Pecker Gone Wild type problem that will hand the professional wreckers in the corporate media the scandal they need.

15. Pretty much a texbook response to the question Warren.
I love "Kleptocracy". Golden descriptive.

Even if it really is just good cop, bad cop I like the fella that gave me a smoke, a cup of coffee, and restrained himself from kicking the shit out of my ass over the other guy by quite a bit.
It is also a bit cool to at least hope the nice cop might let you go as he somehow just implies but never says.
That other pig is a motherfucker and a half.
