Is It Really Necessary to Purposely Polarlize People Into Obama Can Do No Wrong / Obama Sucks Camps?
There's yet-another GD: P champion trying to force people into clear lines, defining where we stand on President Obama, trying to divide DUers and goad them into insulting and slamming each other based on whether or not they agree with some outrageously slanted piece of writing, one that doesn't even come from the OP's own intellect.

I can't call out the poster and don't want to give them more attention than they deserve, anyway. Anyone who's been around long enough knows what I'm talking about.

Please don't fall for this crap. It divides our voices - do we want single payer? Sure. Does wanting single payer mean we hate Obama? FUCK NO! Do we want to see more bailouts? No. Does that mean we hate Obama? FUCK NO! - and diminishes our ability to be united about what policies are important to us - and keeps us too busy fighting against each other to have any say in the decisions made by our public servants.

Please don't fall for the trap.

1. Thank you - k&r
This community can be a great place to celebrate the many victories and organize for even more. The No Wrong/Sux false dichotomy is something we can't afford.

3. 2001 - 2008
We were kept too busy hating Bush to be effective. 2004? If Kerry and the DC crowd screwed us by making the campaign about "anyone but Bush."

2. False dichotomies are, guess what . . . FALSE. Reality is NOT like that and the
multidimensional Truth is, by definition, inevitable, because it IS the Truth.

This is why, imho, we should concentrate on ISSUES, not political personalities.

35. Why did I choose that?
Manaechism is a "black/white" religious view. It allows for no shades of gray. It something is either good or it is evil. It is the eyes of simplistic thinking.

And simplistic thinking, thinking that evinces little or no reason or insight, seems to be epidemic these days. On both sides of the political equation.

Try as we might to not believe it, life is nuanced.

6. At rare times, I think it is.
Edited on Sun Apr-12-09 10:48 AM by Liberal Veteran
There are certain people of otherwise liberal credentials that make it a point to chastise President Obama consistently and are strangely silent when he does something they can't disagree with.

Mind you, I think they are a tiny minority of people. But they do exist and in much smaller numbers than the volume of their posts would have you believe.

20. there is no doubt an element of that at play in the media as well as the blogs.
The RW is far better at exploiting that technique than the LW is, too.

21. Neither the RW nor the LW should be exploiting that technique.
Nobody should be. It's intellectually dishonest. It dumbs down conversation and ultimately we all suffer because of it.

23. Didn't Say They Aren't There
Or how fascinating it is that so many of them spent 7 months screaming (so to speak) epithets about HC last year. The Obama boosters club loved these kids so much a year ago they bought them all stars. They were attention-demanding trolls then, and they still are now. Sucks when it's your guy they're after, huh?

34. Uh huh. It's like you either cheerlead the deaths of bad guys, or
you love bad guys.

You either cheerlead invading an innocent nation, or you're a Saddam-lover.

You either love Obama blindly, or you hate Obama blindly.

Coz we're different than the other side.

:sarcasm:

I guess the good part is, we do polarize, unlike the rightwingnuts who march in lockstep. More common sense middle-ground would be highly welcome to this progressive liberal, though.
