Civil unions insufficient for homosexual activistsPete Chagnon - OneNewsNow - 4/9/2009 5:40:00 AM
The president of Concerned Women for America says homosexual activists will not stop at civil unions.
Vermont was the first state to pass a civil union law over eight years ago. Civil unions essentially gave homosexuals the benefits of marriage without actually redefining marriage. But now the state has decided to redefine marriage by giving homosexuals full marriage rights.
Wendy Wright of Concerned Women for America believes it is naïve to think that homosexual activists will settle for anything less than full-fledged marriage.
"Since homosexual couples have all the government-bestowed benefits in Vermont through civil unions, really what they are demanding is to have everyone in society recognize homosexuality as a legitimate behavior and that everyone in society must recognize their arrangements as if they are the same as a heterosexual couple," she contends.
She says the original intent of civil unions was to provide benefits, which is all the homosexuals claimed they wanted. "But now we see that that was really just a ruse. It was a first step in order to require that all of society accept and recognize homosexual unions as if they are the same as marriage," Wright concludes.
