to not get totally outraged over the US taking action against the pirates.

Would the pirates have had to kill a crew member? 2? 3?

I am all for peace, but I am also for self-defense and protecting American citizens.

And those wanting to turn this into some "eco-war" and make the Pirates "environmental heroes" are shameful. Two wrongs do not make a right, and taking people who have not done anything wrong hostage is immoral no matter what.

1. I'm outraged that they haven't killed a whole lot more pirates
And hoping that the rules of engagement that constrain our Navy's actions are promptly revised to allow more killing of pirates.

17. No, why does it matter?

To be called a pirate (meaning a bandit at sea, not someone who makes illegal copies of software, etc.) a person has to commit a violent crime - Robbery or kidnapping at the very least. Use of force or threat of use of force to steal stuff. They are by definition a threat to life and limb.

It's always OK with me to use deadly force against a robber or kidnapper. If you kidnap or rob someone, you have forfeited your right to live.

14. I wouldn't put a number on it; I'm not bloodthirsty.
But any number whom US forces kill while carrying out or attempting pirate attacks is fine by me. I wouldn't support bombing the coast of Somalia into a moonscape or invading that country and bringing it "democracy," as Republicans might prefer.

We will hear the lines in this OP repeated over and over and over again now for about a week, hundreds of times.

This is getting stranger and stranger. It didn't even occur to me as the story unfolded that it had anything to do with Obama. "Obama versus the pirates - pick one. If you are not for us, you are against us."

Is every single subject from here on out going to be held to this same absurd standard? Is everything going to be about Obama, and will there always be one and only one acceptable line to take on every issue, according to how it fits into the Obama drama in people's fervent imaginations?

Maybe this drama is all being manufactured by cable TV political news shows? It is the strangest thing I have seen in a while.

WTF does Obama have to do with Somali pirates? What did he do that is any different from what any other president would do under the circumstances? If Bush were still president and did the exact same thing, I am certain that we could talk about this subject just the way we are now without people losing their minds over it.

5. I was chastized for suggesting a sniper hit.
Guess I was in the right on that call.

Fact is, some DUers have perpetually twisted knickers. It takes nothing to get them to squeal.

7. This is the same strawman as "they want to read the terrorists' their rights"
both are BS

We want some resolution to the ppl at Gitmo but it is not about reading them their rights, its about a fair and just resolution.

I don't care about the pirates. They made a deal to turn Phillips over then did not keep their end of the bargain.

19. There are people who do not have any regard for human life
they would kill you in the blink of an eye with no remorse or regret. No amount of love, therapy, hugs, education or reasoning will help them. If it's between the life of an innocent person who was just doing his job and a criminal who would kill another human being if they don't get paid some money, I'm all for saving the innocent one.

20. unbelievable
No one is doing any such thing, but now we will have THIS repeated over and over and over again.

No one is denying the need for self-defense and protecting American citizens.

No one is making make the Pirates "environmental heroes."

No one is wanting to turn this into some "eco-war"

No one is saying that two wrongs make a right.

No one is defending taking people hostage.
